Last year was a good season for Lexus in the SCORE off-road racing series. Joe Bacall, and the JTGrey team, running their LX550, finished first in the stock class championship thanks to racking up wins at a number of races, including the Laughlin Desert Challenge, Terribles Las Vegas Prim 300 and the infamous Baja 1000.
Now, the team is back, hoping to repeat their success for a second year in a row. In fact, Bacall himself recently said in a press statement that “we are prepared for the new challenges this season will bring. We’ll be racing harder and faster with Lexus this year and expect some great finishes in the LX570.”
The updated JTGrey truck that Bacall will be driving this year is a serious piece of kit. It sports, among other things, 37-inch BF Goodrich Baja TA project race tires, custom King Racing shocks, Sparco race seats, and nine KC Hilites High Intensity Discharge lights. Top Trophy Truck builder Geiser Brothers’ Design and Development made modifications to the truck and will provide on site support during each race in 2011.
The next event on the calendar in the SCORE series, is the San Felipe 250, scheduled for March 11-13; the Baja 500 will follow on June 3-5, the 2011 Las Vegas Primm 300 on August 26-28 and finally the grueling Baja 1000 will be run on November 17-20. Not surprisingly, with so much at stake after last year’s success, Bacall and the JTGrey team will be looking to do well in each of these events.
Cancer survivor Joe Bascal drives his Cancer Treatment Centers of America LX570 to victory.
Cancer Survivor Joe Bacal and navigator Paul Williamsen may just have set a record this weekend, taking first place in their class at the grueling Baja 500 race. It was the first win for Bascal, the JTGrey Racing Team, the Cancer Treatment Centers of America LX570 and for Lexus in professional off-road racing.
More amazing still Bascal piloted the Lexus solo during the entire 16 hours it took to complete the 41st annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 in the Stock Full class.
“This is truly a dream come true,” said Bacal. “The LX 570 was bulletproof and we went the entire distance without a tire change. I was tired at the end but not exhausted, which is something that two years ago was hard to imagine after my cancer ordeal.”
Bascal and his Cancer Treatment Centers of America TJGrey Racing Lexus LX570 will race again in August at the Vegas to Reno 1000 in the Best of the Desert series.
