2010 Lambo Murcielago

Rather than posting unsubstantiated rumors like most other blogs do, we made an effort to confirm some interesting information regarding Lamborghini‘s supercar.

Autoguide was able to speak to a Lamborghini rep after the SEMA Show had wrapped for the day. The rep, who refused to be named, said that the car will “blow away” the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12c. Among the specifics cited were a full carbon monocoque chassis, pushrod suspension and a 700 horsepower engine. This seems to jibe with the latest rumors on Ferrarichat.

The Lambo repped also mentioned that the car will debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March, so if we somehow turn out to be wrong, you can mock us mercilessly in a few months.

Lamborghini has released yet another teaser of their so-called “technology concept”, with this photo showcasing the carbon fiber technology that’s said to feature prominently in future Lamborghinis.

Previous photos have highlighted things like smaller engines (a relative term, of course, when you go from a V12 to a V10) and discussed the importance of light weight. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the supercar maker from Sant’Agata wants to cut weight as environmental regulations get increasingly tougher. The use of carbon fiber, as seen above, is going to be an integral part of future Lamborghinis, and other supercar makers will almost certainly have to follow suit, or risk a demise at the hands of environmental legislation.

With the Paris Auto Show just days away, we’ll finally get a look at the new Lamborghini, whatever it may be. Stay tuned to our Paris Auto Show page for more coverage.

Lamborghini continues to feed us bits and pieces of information ahead of the Paris Auto Show, with their recent shot of a ten cylinder powerplant. Many people assumed that it was the Murcielago replacement, known as the Jota, but the V10 arrangement threw off many observers.

Now comes another round of teasers for an supposedly smaller product, that might replace the Gallardo. We’re not 100% sure what the new car could be, but with the Gallardo having been on the market since 2003, it might be time for a new baby Lambo.

Lamborghini is embarking on a pragmatic approach to supercar building with its Murcielago successor, known as the Jota. Rather than focus on top speed, the Jota will emphasize weight reduction, handling and acceleration prowess over brute force.

Lamborghini released a teaser today, showing what appear to be velocity stack openings for a possibly V10 engine. While the Murcielago had a V12, the downsize in power could be part of Lamborghini’s rhetoric discussing the importance of power-to-weight ratios and the incoming use of carbon fiber in their cars.

“From the middle of the Eighties, the average weight of our cars has increased by 500 kg because of active and passive safety, comfort and emissions reduction issues, and this is something that we have to change,” the release stated, in a refreshingly honest critique of modern supercars.

The Jota is expected to debut at this years Paris Auto Show, and Autoguide will be on hand to cover the launch.
