It would seem that every automaker involved in the Chinese market is jumping onboard the long wheelbase craze. The newest addition to the group is rumored to be the Volvo S60L, a stretched variant of its popular sedan model.
The Swedish automaker will be joining the Infiniti M Long Wheelbase, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase, and the Porsche Panamera Long Wheelbase as just some of the lengthened models announced this year for the Chinese market. Even BMW joined in with its 328Li that recently debuted at the Beijing Auto Show.
Rumor has it that the S60L will be produced in Chengdu before the end of this year at Volvo’s new facility, where they hope to churn out 200,000 vehicles a year. Currently Volvo produces the S80L in China through its Chang’an-Volvo relationship; but sales of the S80L have been less than flattering compared to the hold Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz has with their long wheelbase models.
