MINI is preparing an all new sub-compact that will be closer in size to the original Mini, and likely become available in 2014.
The new ‘mini’ MINI will be a true successor to the Sixties model, only 40cm longer and 50cm wider than the first iteration. This mode will create a new entry point with a range of gas and diesel three-cylinder turbocharged engines as well as an all electric model.
BMW sales and marketing director Ian Robertson told us: “MINI will never produce a car under the ‘i’ brand – this is exclusively for BMWs – but the technology we are developing for the ‘i’ family of cars will certainly be made available for the rest of the BMW Group.”
This technology will likely power the ‘mini’ MINI because of their relative size.
The next MINIs to go on sale will be the Coupé and Roadster in 2012. The ‘mini’ MINI will likely be released at the same time as the next- generation hatch is released in 2014.
