We’ll admit this is a little odd, but we can also understand where Roush is coming from. The Mustang-tuner’s 2011 Roush Sport Mustang package has been announced and it doesn’t pack the performance we expect. In fact, it doesn’t really pack any performance. Instead, for $4,600, Roush will outfit your 2011 Mustang with a sportier appearance.

The Sport Mustang is really just a full body kit with a whole new front bumper with splitter and billet grille, side skirts, rear bumper and three-piece rear wing. Even though we find it a bit costly at $4,600, we’d have to agree that the aero components definitely gives the Mustang a sportier look.

In true Roush form though, supplemental modifications can be added to the package to boost performance from suspension to exhaust to brakes and interior upgrades.

SEMA has teamed up with WD-40 to produce a one-of-a-kind 2011 Ford Mustang GT that will be auctioned off at an upcoming Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Show and Auction two months after its debut at this year’s SEMA Show. The proceeds of the sale will go to Childhelp and The Victory Junction Gang Camp.

“The WD-40/SEMA Cares Mustang pays tribute to the mechanics, aftermarket professionals and auto enthusiasts who have used WD-40 for more than 50 years to get the job done,“ said Tim Lesmeister, vice president of marketing at WD-40 Company. “This is such a fun and meaningful project for us. We’re proud that all proceeds from the sale of the vehicle will continue to support two great charities, but we know it would not be possible without the time, energy, dedication and resources of our build partners.”

From the looks of the vehicle, this Mustang is pretty complete from bumper to bumper and will garner quite the attention on the SEMA show floor. Modifications include Stillen’s AP Racing 6-piston brake kit, Paxton supercharger system and a set of Forgeline wheels on each corner of the car. A full body kit courtesy of Street Scene Equipment gives the Mustang a much more aggressive profile.

The vehicle will also be seen in Nitto 1320 Legends, a virtual online drag racing game.

Official press release available after the break.

Back towards the end of May, we were teased with renders of a 1969 Ford Mustang that Vaughn Gittin Jr. would be building for SEMA 2010. Now the RTR-X is taking clear form and Speedhunters.com has revealed even more photos of the build. We have to say we’re quite impressed and can’t wait to see the finished project. This is undoubtedly one of the coolest cars we’ll set our eyes on… ever.

Almost all of the chassis work has been done on the car, and it’s on the ground and rolling, looking absolutely killer. Steen Chassis has done a fantastic job executing the project from bottom-up and the custom metal work is of impeccable quality.

The car is now off to Twins Turbo for all of the finishing touches and StitchCraft Interiors have already met with Gittin Jr. himself to go over the interior modifications. The post reveals the widebody being fitted on and it looks like they’ve got quite a bit to go in the engine bay.

We have to applaud the team in executing the project in a timely fashion. SEMA is still a couple of months away, but for anyone that has ever been involved with a build for SEMA, two months is not a lot of time. Given the level of detail and quality that is being put into this RTR-X, we expect them to finish without a single flaw and the car to be a true masterpiece once it touches ground on the show floor. This will be at the top of our list when we head over to SEMA to check out in person!

Make sure to hit the source for all the new pics.

We promised we’d follow up on the Toyota Supra 2JZ-Powered Ford Mustang of Jaw’s Gear and Axle and we finally have some results in. Recently the vehicle was taken to Bakersfield for the SCE Summer Nationals at Famoso Raceway with no prior testing. Weighing in at 3,530 lbs, Jaw’s Gear and Axle opted to race in two different classes in order to get in as many runs as possible hoping to dial-in their Ford Mustang hybrid.

Their qualifying efforts required a lot of fine-tuning and tweaking, but they settled in on the first night with a fastest time of 9.630 @ 145.93 mph. They knew they had a lot more in the car and that an 8-second pass was surely possible before the weekend of racing was over. Through some luck, they were able to make some rounds in order to continue competing with their Mustang, netting a new time of 9.159 @ 157.45 mph in the second round.

As the night started coming to a close, the Jaw’s team found themselves in the finals making it an already successful debut for the Mustang. But they wanted more, perhaps knowing they wouldn’t get an event win, they still aimed for an 8-second pass. So despite losing the final round, they were able to achieve their other goal of tripping the lights at 8.962 @ 159.37 mph at the end of the quarter mile.

It’s a great starting point for the Mustang and clearly the car has a lot of potential. It’ll be exciting to see how many more domestic enthusiasts have their eyebrows raised from this unique Ford Mustang Hybrid.

There’s an old adage that floats around the drag racing track that goes something like this: “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” Sometimes this means throwing in a 100-shot of nitrous oxide to keep up with the competitors, or dropping your credit card at the local shop to replicate what someone else has done.

While this Mustang probably had other ways of beating its competition, Jeff Wilson of Jaw’s Gear and Axle decided to shoe-horn a Toyota Supra 2JZ-GTE powerplant into his Ford Mustang. Forget the big displacement and heavy torque that every Mustang-fanatic brags about. The turbocharged inline-six will be making a statement to everyone at the drag strip for its reliability, strength and horsepower potential.

We’ve seen plenty of videos of Supras generating more than 1200-hp as well as blistering the quarter mile in 7-second passes. So it’s no surprise that this Ford Mustang will probably devastate some of its competition while raising plenty of eyebrows and stirring controversy within the pits. Look for the Jaw’s Gear and Axle Mustang at WCHRA events in the LT5 class for 2010. The project is a combination of minds with Titan Motorsports contributing parts, Enterprise Motorsport’s fabrication skills, Dave Engine’s engine building, Black Sheep Racing’s technical knowledge and world-renowned tuner John Reed. We’re looking forward to seeing Jaw’s Gear and Axle’s Mustang take on the competition!

Steve Saleen’s new company SMS Supercars is just about ready to unleash its version of the 2010 Mustang and has released a complete ordering guide for both versions of the Pony Car, as well as a few images of a near-completion prototype.

The images show a significantly more aggressive design with a new front fascia, side skirts, rear end and decklid spoiler. Other highlights include an SMS grille and fog lamp design, as well as a new Red Butterfly Air Induction Hood and signature 20-inch wheels.

Earlier this year SMS announced that it would create two models, the SMS 460 and 460X. The 460X is the big power option with an SMS 296 Supercharger bolted to a completely reworked 4.6-liter engine that will boast a displacement of 5.0-liters. As well as the displacement increase, the new 5.0-liter motor will also get significantly revised heads. The result of all these modifications will be 655hp and 600 ft-lbs of torque!

A less outrageous option is also offered, the 460, which includes the SMS 296 blower but not the added engine work. Power is rated at a still-impressive 470hp and 427 ft-lbs of torque

Both models are expected to hit 60 mph in the low 4 second range.

Of course, the SMS 460 Mustangs won’t just be straight -line performers and will include a revised suspension setup and powerful new brakes. Also look for impressive interior work with plenty of leather and Alcantara.

“The SMS 460 Mustang embodies everything I stand for,” said Steve Saleen. “It reflects my unrivaled tenure in the Mustang business, my passion and love for the Mustang brand.”

Pricing has also been released with the base 460 model starting at $64,990 and the ultra high-performance 460X at $85,961. SMS will release convertible versions of both models as well with pricing set at $5,000 more than the coupe models.

Those who can’t wait can already spec out their new SMS Mustang here:
