The Lexus CT200h has been a success for the company, drawing in younger buyers as well opening up a new low-price point to enter into the luxury segment, and now the car may spawn some new models.
The “possibility to build other vehicles off that(CT200h) platform” is likely, said Mark Templin, Lexus U.S. group vice president and general manager in an interview with WardsAuto. The sales of the CT200h will likely grow 25% in 2012, a great gain, but still not as much as the company would like. “We’ll probably end up in the 18,000-unit range this year, just based on the supply that we can get,” mentioned Templin.
The average age of the CT200h buyer is 53, six years younger than the average age of regular Lexus buyers. New customers to the brand are also likely to get into a CT as their first Lexus.
Oddly enough, the company recently discontinued the HS 250h due to lack of sales. The style, price and options on the car made it much less accessible than the CT, and thus was discontinued.
