Disney’s Pixar has a magical way of not only touching the hearts of children, but also the hearts of adults through their movies. The movie Cars and its sequel Cars 2 are of course our favorites, and Disney California Adventure is adding a Cars-themed ride to their amusement park.
The attraction Cars Land will open to the public on June 15th, but the team at the amusement park is hard at work testing the Radiator Springs Racers seven days a week, mostly at night. But Disney decided to release a sneak preview of what we can expect when the ride goes live, and it appears they’ve done a fantastic job bringing Radiator Springs to life.
Clearly this will be one of their most heavily anticipated openings for both children and adults, considering how successful the Cars franchise has become over the years.

The Cars franchise is about more that just marketing and merchandising. In fact, the characters of Cars 2 (in theaters June 24) has teamed up with the Department of Transportation (DOT), to help fight distracted driving with a new public service ad.
Staring Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, the 30-second PSA is called, “Only the bad guys drive distracted.” Basically, it reminds drivers of a very important message: “No calling, no texting. Nothing that can take away your focus.”
This PSA can be seen in more than a dozen countries and various languages. As well, DOT is working on using the ad as part of the Make Roads Safe campaign for global road safety.
This isn’t the first time the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has worked with Disney on driving safety campaigns. You may remember the re-release of Cinderella in 2005 urging parents to fit their children properly in booster seats.

The countdown is on for the premiere of Cars 2 (in theaters June 24) and to get you all revved up, you can see two of the main character races… in real life!
If you get a chance to go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, which runs June 30 to July 3, you can see Lightning McQueen and Finn McMissile (the new secret agent, voiced by Sir Michael Caine) racing against each other.
Although we here in North American get to see it before the Brits (it doesn’t open in the UK until July 22), this even should keep them in the Cars spirit until the momentous date. It would be cool to see these two Disney/Pixar life-size celebrity race cars up close and personal, and if you’re in the UK or just visiting during that time, you should go check it out. With Cars 2 hitting theatres June 24, Disney has announced the latest racer to get his own character in the highly anticipate sequel – Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton’s character will be sporting a McLaren MP4-12C-like body and a British Racing Green paint scheme. And the British F1 racer is pretty pumped about his part, as he took to Twitter to announce it: “Hey guys, big news — I’m going to be in @DisneyPixar’s Cars2! Take a look at my car… This is wicked;)”
Says Pixar on the addition: “The celebrated native Brit continues to bring an exceptional work ethic and soft-spoken confidence to the race course, where his extraordinary achievements speak for themselves via a spotless track record on the junior and professional circuits.”
In the sequel to the popular Pixar film, Lighting McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and Mater the tow truck (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) leave home to take part in the first ever World Grand Prix. Other Brit stars set to feature in the film include Michael Caine, Vanessa Redgrave and Eddie Izzard.
The countdown until the new Cars 2 movie is underway, and Disney is introducing us to a new character in the sequel. Meet Rip Clutchgoneski, an LMP-style racer from the former European colony of New Rearendia.
In the movie, which will be out in theatres on June 24, Rip is making a name for himself on the racing circuit and has made his way to the World Grand Prix, thanks to some impressive and improbable qualifying wins. He’s got some mad skills, but will they be enough for him to bring honor back to New Rearendia?
Are you excited to meet the new characters of Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2? Will you be going to see it opening weekend?
NASCAR star Jeff Gordon will appear in the upcoming Pixar film Cars 2 as Jeff Gorvette, a Corvette C6.R, and his role will be more than just a cameo.
The Gorvette character (if it can be called that) will be positioned as a rival to protagonist Lightning McQueen. While the connection between NASCAR and Corvette Racing will be downplayed for the film, the ‘Vette will still wear Gordon’s signature #24.
Gordon won’t be the only NASCAR star in the movie either. Darrell Waltrip will be reprising his role as color commentator Darrell Cartrip, and will take the form of a 1980′s era NASCAR vehicle.
As a bunch of grown men (and women) we’ll admit to being as excited as an eight-year-old for the release of Pixar’s Cars 2. Then again, it’ll be hard to live up to the original, a movie that was as much for adults as for children, with a deep message about greed and the cost of progress, not to mention more auto-enthusiast jokes than you can shake a torque wrench at.
Set to hit theaters next summer, Disney and Pixar have just released the first trailer for the movie staring none-other than Lightning Mcqueen and his sidekick Mader.
