Porsche GT2 RS 08.jpg

Porsche has just released a new selection of photos of its flagship GT2 RS. Yup, no story here, just lots and lots of amazing photos of an even more amazing car. And as impressive as the 620-hp machine looks in silvery-blue, the new photos of the Nurburgring champ in a brilliant red shade are even more stunning.

Priced at $245,000 all 500 GT2 RS models sold out in just two months. And why wouldn’t it, with an extra 90-hp over the standard GT2, and a weight reduction of 154 lbs. It’s Nurburgring lap time of 7 minutes and 18 seconds has yet to be bested by any other production car.

Want to own a piece of Porsche history? Now you can. The record setting Porsche GT2 RS that was piloted by Jeff Zwart at Pikes Peak is currently for sale at Champion Motorsport in sunny South Florida. Champion’s Porsche dealership, the largest Porsche dealership year after year, currently has the GT2 RS sitting in their showroom looking for a new owner.

Earlier this week, Porsche released a video of Zwart’s record setting run up Pikes Peak after driving 1,132 miles from California. The GT2 RS mostly has interior modifications, being a race car and all, and currently sports only a driver’s seat, OMP steering wheel and safety cage. Hopefully whoever purchases it will preserve it as a race car rather than letting it sit in the garage as some sort of collectible.

For Pikes Peak this year, Porsche looked to reset the record books by throwing seven-time Pikes Peak Champion Jeff Zwart behind the wheel of the 911 GT2 RS. But to make it even more exciting, they had Zwart pick up the car from Porsche Motorsport in Santa Ana, CA and drive it 1,132 miles to the start line of America’s second oldest race in anticipation of setting new records.

While the achievement of besting his 2010 record setting run by 10 seconds and setting the fastest street-legal car ever at Pikes Peak is amazing enough, the video that Porsche produced of the journey is simply one-of-a-kind. From the adventure of getting to Pikes Peak to the actual car footage of it setting the record is simply incredible. Porsche did a fantastic job of capturing the elegance and beauty of Pikes Peak, while showing the exhilaration and danger of racing up the famed mountain.

As if Porsche‘s GT2 wasn’t potent enough from the factory, the masterminds at Wimmer RS have taken the factory 620-hp to a fun-filled 703-hp, with 597 ft-lbs of torque to boot. The horsepower boost comes thanks to a new pair of optimized turbochargers, an air intake adjustment, tuning of the throttle valve, a new sport air filter and new exhaust system.

Even more impressive are some of the other numbers Wimmer RS decided to share with the public. Their GT2 RS is reportedly capable of a 0-62 mph time of around 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 221 mph.

We’re pretty sure this is the first example of a modified Porsche GT2 RS, but we can guarantee it most certainly won’t be the last.

You have to love the Brits! Porsche UK has just released a brief promo video for the new GT2 RS that’s both entertaining and educational, showing the fastest Porsche ever built being flogged on both the Porsche Experience Center and the Silverstone Grand Prix race track.

With a total of 620-hp from its twin-turbo flat-six engine, the GT2 RS is also incredibly light thanks to a reduction in weight of 154 lbs. Looking at the car it’s easy to see where the weight went, with carbon fiber body panels and exterior trim items, carbon fiber seats, carbon ceramic brakes and light-weight forged RS Spyder wheels with center locks.

In fact, Porsche went to such extremes to save weight that the hood logo is actually just a sticker.

Along with a host of other upgrades, the proof comes with a Nürburgring lap time that’s well beyond any of the competition, besting the Viper ACR’s best time by 4 seconds with a 7:18.

Porsche UK is using the new GT2 RS as a way to help promote its Porsche Experience program, rather than as a way to help sell GT2 RS models – of which just 500 were made and already sold.

OK, so it didn’t sell out in three minutes like the Neiman Marcus Chevy Camaro Convertible, but Porsche has confirmed that two months after its debut at the Moscow Auto Salon, the GT2 RS is all sold out. That’s right, so if you don’t have one now, go cry yourself to sleep in your regular old GT2, or worse still, a run-of-the-mill 911 Turbo.

For those lucky 500, they’ll be able to kill themselves enjoy piloting all 620-hp of twin-turbo insanity provided by the ultra-light weight monster that Porsche touts as not only the fastest 911 of all time, but the fastest Porsche of all time. Carrera GT, who?

Owners even get bragging rights on the Nurburgring, with the GT2 RS running a lap time at the Green Hell of just 7:18 – 4 seconds quicker than the Viper ACR.

At a retail cost of $245,000 the total value of all GT2 RS models sold is an astounding $122,500,000.

News doesn’t necessarily have to be new. Sure, that goes against the age old rules of journalism… but it’s true. Case in point: the Porsche GT2 RS.

Unveiled at the Moscow Auto Show, it’s still worth covering here at the Paris Motor Show – although part of the reason is that we never covered the Moscow show because like almost every other automotive publication we value our lives. It’s also really far away.

With a total of 620-hp from its twin-turbo flat-six engine, the GT2 RS is the most powerful street legal Porsche ever. It’s also incredibly light thanks to a reduction in weight of 154 lbs. Looking at the car it’s easy to see where the weight went, with carbon fiber body panels and exterior trim items, carbon fiber seats, carbon ceramic brakes and light-weight forged RS Spyder wheels with center locks.

Along with a host of other upgrades, the proof comes with a Nürburgring lap time that’s well beyond any of the competition, besting the Viper ACR’s best time by 4 seconds with a 7:18.

Just 500 GT2 RS models are being built at a price of $245,000.

Some people just have all the luck don’t they? Walter Röhrl is Porsche‘s senior test driver and has quite a resume in his racing career. He’s an accomplished rally driver and road racer with victories for a fine collection of manufacturers including Fiat, Opel, Audi, Porsche, Ford and BMW. So what do you get when you pair a Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Röhrl behind the wheel and a video camera? So much jealousy from every one of us stuck behind a computer all day.

The 3.6L twin-turbocharged, quarter of a million dollar supercar puts out 630-hp of pure joy and at the very least we get to experience it vicariously through a video. Check out the video of Röhrl taking the GT2 RS around Luk Driving Center and enjoy the awesome Video Vbox display spouting off all sorts of data including throttle, brake, Gs, RPM and speed. One thing we do want to note is that it’s clear Röhrl is taking it very easy with the car – probably the reason for them to not be sporting any helmets.

Hot on the tread marks of the GT2 RS reveal, Porsche has just released a stunning new promo video of its fastest sports car yet. With 620-hp and a curb weight of just 3,020 lbs, the RS model gains 90-hp on the standard GT2 and drops 154 lbs of weight. And according to Porsche it will lap the Nürburgring in just 7 minutes, 18 seconds – 4 seconds ahead of the current production car leader, the Viper ACR.

Other important statistics include a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph. But the most important stats might just be that only 500 models will be built with an asking price of $245.000. The car will make its official debut at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th.
