Honda recently unveiled their EV-STER Concept at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, showing off an all-electric sports car that seats two and is rear-wheel-drive. Now reports are coming in that Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has said that the roadster is headed to production and could be offered with both standard gasoline and electric powertrains.

The interview was with Auto Motor und Sport, and the publication speculates that the vehicle could be launched as early as next year. At the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda revealed details of its electric powerplant with 78-hp and a possible 100-mile range. What Honda intends to do with a gasoline powerplant in this sporty roadster is what will be most interesting – they could definitely use a new sports car in the market.
