There’s a lot to love about the 2014 Range Rover Sport and the British automaker is banking on its popularity by expanding the lineup by offering even more powertrain options.

Land Rover will be adding to its Range Rover Sport lineup with a diesel-electric hybrid model and a conventional model powered by the automaker’s V8. Further down the line, the Range Rover Sport will also be offered with a four-cylinder “EcoBoost” engine, which is now possible thanks to its weight loss.

According to Stuart Firth, Land Rover’s Chief Program Engineer for the Range Rover Sport, by shedding over 925 pounds, the Range Rover Sport is now able to be powered by a smaller four-cylinder without compromising the performance and off-road capability that the SUV is known for.

The V8 model will bring 516 lb-ft of torque to the Range Rover Sport and will join the lineup later this year along with the diesel-hybrid model. The diesel-hybrid Range Rover Sport will be a diesel V6 engine and will have its hybrid goods located under the floor of the SUV, allowing it to retain its seven-seater configuration and cargo space will be left as is. The hybrid technology will also be introduced to the standard, larger Range Rover model at the same time.

Images of what appear to be the 2014 Range Rover Sport have leaked onto the Internet ahead of the SUV’s debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show tomorrow.

There’s a good chance that these are the real deal, considering the vehicle resembles all the teasers we’ve seen so far. Land Rover’s all new Range Rover Sport will share its all-aluminum, bonded, and riveted Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) platform and engines with the fourth-generation Range Rover.

The Range Rover Sport is expected to see a substantial loss in weight – up to 661 pounds – and engine choices will include a supercharged V6 with 335 hp in addition to a standard V8 with 510 hp.

The new Land Rover Range Rover Sport is ready to make its debut at the upcoming 2013 New York Auto Show, and today the brand released a short clip of the SUV cruising around New York City at night.

This will be the fastest and most agile Land Rover to date according to the brand, and will be fully revealed on March 26, though two photos of the vehicle have already made their rounds on the web.

The new Range Rover Sport is expected to benefit from up to 700 lbs. of weight loss, much like the standard Range Rover. Power will come from a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 on the top-spec model, while a base HSE model may feature a non-supercharged 5.0-liter V8, or a supercharged 3.0-liter V6.

The 2014 Range Rover Sport isn’t scheduled to make its official debut for two weeks at the 2013 New York Auto Show, but photos of the new machine have just leaked.

Land Rover recently released a video teasing the new Range Rover Sport and now we can enjoy it in all (or at least most of) its full glory. It clearly takes some styling cues from the popular Evoque, adding a modern touch while maintaining the classic shape that Range Rovers are notorious for.

Like the Range Rover model, the Sport is expected to shed as much as 700 lbs thanks to an all-aluminum structure, improving both performance and efficiency. While a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 is expected on the top-line model, what isn’t yet clear is if the entry-level HSE will be a non-supercharged 5.0-liter V8, or a supercharged 3.0-liter V6.

The all-new Range Rover Sport will make its official debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show at the end of the month, which means it’s time for the British automaker to start releasing teaser images and videos for the SUV.

Newest to be released onto the Internet is a video that teases the new Range Rover Sport. Though it doesn’t reveal much, we do get a good look at the new model’s headlights and a subtle glance at the vehicle’s side. What’s best from the video however is hearing for the first time, the exhaust note of the Range Rover Sport.

Land Rover is praising the new Range Rover Sport as its most dynamic vehicle yet, and the rumble of the exhaust hints that a V8 could be lurking under the hood. Expect a big 5.0-liter V8 and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 making over 500 hp. Plus, riding on a new aluminum platform, expect it to shed as much as 700 lbs.

Land Rover has confirmed that the all-new Range Rover Sport will make its official debut at the upcoming 2013 New York Auto Show.

To celebrate the occasion, the British automaker and its new Range Rover Sport will make its global premiere with a live drive through Manhattan on March 26 before the show kicks off. Land Rover brags that the new Range Rover Sport will be the brand’s “fastest, most responsive and most agile vehicle to date.”

And if the new Range Rover model gives any indication, look for an all-aluminum chassis that should help cut the SUVs weight by around 700 lbs, while powertrain updates will likely include an all-new 3.0-liter supercharged V6.

New York is the Range Rover Sport’s biggest market; more Sports are sold in the state than any other metropolitan area in the world. It is also North America’s best-selling Land Rover model. Of course, the unveiling will be broadcasted live to a global audience on a new website.

Spy photos of the Range Rover Sport wearing the least camouflage to date show the car’s wider body and more sloping roofline.

AutoGuide’s spy photographers caught the car during cold weather testing today. The performance luxury SUV is expected to come with both diesel and gasoline engines, although the U.S. market is likely to only get the gas version if history is an indicator.

The V8 is expected to be sourced from Jaguar’s shelves — likely the same supercharged engine found in the XKR with 510 hp.

Official details are still unavailable, but customers can expect this new generation to handle much better than the outgoing model. At least it seems very likely given the strikingly improved driving dynamics in the all-new 2013 Range Rover.

Land Rover will likely debut the new vehicle during the Frankfurt Auto Show late this year, although an official debut has yet to be announced.

Land Rover is currently working on its second-generation Range Rover Sport SUV, which will feature much more aggressive styling to differentiate itself from the standard Range Rover model. 

According to design director Gerry McGovern, the next-gen Range Rover Sport “would be given more personality than before,” so that it can be “separated a bit more,” from the Range Rover. The New Range Rover Sport is set to make its debut in the middle of next year and will be on sale before the end of 2013.

Rumor has it that the British automaker is potentially adding a seven-seater option for the Range Rover Sport for the first time in the model’s history, though McGovern did not confirm the option. In fact, the design director stated that it would be a “challenge” to give the Range Rover Sport a seven-seat option given its sporty profile.

The new Range Rover Sport will be built on Jaguar Land Rover’s Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) which features a riveted and bonded aluminum monocoque to help shave significant weight – up to 660 lbs, making it around 4,761 lbs. In addition, insiders have reported that Land Rover is considering a four-cylinder powerplant for the Sport model, shaving more weight and enhancing fuel efficiency for those not seeking a high-performance SUV.

Land Rover is readying an even hotter version of its Range Rover Sport, which won’t debut until next year.

After that happens, Land Rover’s chief of chassis systems, David Waide, says the company will have already been preparing a flagship version of the SUV.While official details on the car are still unavailable, the 2013 Range Rover’s aluminum architecture will carry over to offer huge benefits.

The lighter chassis, Range Rover says, will allow the Sport (seen above) to have a much different feel than the normal Range Rover. Of course, those benefits would be amplified in an R-S version which would be even more purpose-built for performance.

Still, the car won’t aim to beat the current segment-topping Porsche Cayenne GTS. Instead, the brand says it will be a balance between sports performance and comfort, much like the XKR-S.

Spy photos of a 2014 Range Rover Sport masquerading as a Volvo came in today with relatively light camouflage.

The more muscular sport version isn’t scheduled to debut until a year after the “normal” Range Rover will bow this September at the Paris Auto Show. Specific details of the car are about as clear as the pixelated camo you see above, but its likely to have a Jaguar-sourced supercharged V8 with roughly 510 hp.

You can also expect it to sit lower to the ground with a wider stance compared to the less powerful version. Perhaps the most important change to look out for will be vehicle weight. Land Rover’s engineers are working hard to lighten its vehicles with aluminum, meaning the new Land Rover Sport will probably be more efficient too.

Cementing what has been an unofficial relationship for decades, Land Rover and Bowler are finally declaring an official  partnership.

“We’re delighted to announce this partnership, which brings very positive benefits to both Bowler and Land Rover,” said Drew Bowler, Managing Director of Bowler. “We’ve only ever used Land Rover powertrains, and this relationship will give us access to current Land Rover technologies, and a great platform from which to support our racing activities and develop future models.”

Both companies have reached an agreement that will allow Bowler direct access to the British automaker’s engineering facilities along with a more organized system for parts supply and procurement. For the immediate future, Bowler will continue to focus on its EXR rally car in addition to its Range Rover Sport-based EXR-S model that features a modified 5.0-liter V8 supercharged with 550-hp.

In existence for over 25 years, Bowler began by building rally racing cars for events such as the Rally Dakar and Baja 1000 using exclusively Land Rover powertrain.

A new range of performance models from Land Rover may be on the horizon, bringing a sub-brand to the British luxury SUV manufacturer. Land Rover execs are reportedly considering the possibility of developing the equivalent of the “R” sub-brand currently found in Jaguar, their sister company. Rumors are that a high-performance Evoque variant is being developed to join a fleet including the supercharged Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

The high-performance Evoque could have upwards of 300-hp though Global Brand Director John Edwards would neither confirm or deny that such a model is currently under development. What he did confirm is that they are looking deeply into expanding the Evoque model line and that the market is China will play a big role in determining which route Land Rover will go. Either way, we can look forward to an extension to the Evoque model with either more luxurious amenities or more performance.
