Red Bull livery. It’s not just for Honda CBRs any more. Not since Infiniti teamed up with the energy drink company’s F1 team last year and Sebastian Vettel won the World Championship for the second year running.

To celebrate the event, Infiniti is giving just 10 customers in the UK the opportunity for a behind the scenes look at the Red Bull Racing UK factory. And all they have to do is buy an Infiniti FX.

Those lucky few will be able to have their FX outfitted in a Red Bull Racing inspired wrap at no extra cost. Infiniti will also be offering the custom wrap to other FX drivers, although exact pricing has not been released.

Probably best well known for his role in the Mission: Impossible movies, Tom Cruise is a versatile actor, going from action packed scenes to showing us the money in Jerry Maguire not to mention pretty much every role in between. And even though his act of hopping up and down Oprah’s couch may have been a little questionable, there’s no questioning Mr. Cruise’s DNA for thrilling action.

Cruise took a break from filming his newest Mission: Impossible flick to take on some real world thrills with Red Bull. He headed out to Southern California’s Willow Springs raceway, and after chatting it up with F1 star David Coulthard, got behind the wheel of his F1 race car to see what he’s made of. And the results are pretty impressive, with Cruise hitting 181-mph on the 2.5-mile track, just 4-mph shy of the 13-time Grand Prix winner, Coulthard – who was also his instructor.

And if that wasn’t thrilling enough for Cruise, he decided to do some stunt flying in Red Bull’s helicopter, further proof that he’s a thrill seeker on and off the Hollywood camera.

The tie-up between Red Bull Racing and Japanese luxury brand Infiniti may extend from the race track to the street.

According to a new reports, Infiniti is studying a new performance model that would be built with the Red Bull Racing team. Rather than an all-new vehicle, this would likely be based on a current model, much like the Renault Clio Williams.

“Our relationship with Red Bull is only five races old, but the trajectory for it is to move on and work more closely together. One way of doing that is on a road car project,” said Infiniti motorsports boss Simon Sproule.

The most likely candidate for a high-performance version would be the G37. The Red Bull car would likely go on sale in the next 18 to 24 months, at about the same time Infiniti will most likely be looking to renew its contract with RBR.

The star is Subaru‘s SEMA stand is undoubtedly the same Subaru STi used by Travis Pastrana for his record setting hillclimb up Mt. Washington.

Some Formula 1 fans consider Spa to be on of the best circuits in the world. We’re not sure if Mark Weber is among those, but he certainly seems to be enjoying himself on this cool simulator designed to help him practice for upcoming races.

Weber walks us through the nearly 20 turns at the Spa circuit, showing us highlights like the famed Eau Rouge corner and the trackside hospital tent (which Weber points out with uncanny familiarity).

Here’s a story that is certainly going to get the rumors of Volkswagen‘s involvement in NASCAR started. Last week two-time DTM Champion Mattias Ekström was at Virginia International Raceway helping test a Red Bull Racing Toyota for the upcoming NASCAR race at Sonoma.

The reason for the odd match isn’t about NASCAR ambitions says Audi, but rather a driver’s dream and a sponsors request. That’s right, Red Bull Racing is the main sponsor for the No. 82 and No. 83 Toyotas in NASCAR, as well as the main sponsor for Ekstrom’s Audi DTM car. No. 83 driver Brian Vickers was ill and the car still needed to be tested, and according to Audi, Red Bull Racing USA remembered Ekstrom’s interest in NASCAR and made the request to Audi Sport.

“It’s no secret that the NASCAR series fascinates me and that it’s been a long-harbored dream of mine to drive such a car,” said Mattias Ekström, commenting after the test that, “The first hour of the test I was fighting the car a lot just getting used to the power, the weight and the fact that the car has little aero — all things that are very different for me. A few hours into the test I felt a lot more comfortable in the car and overall I think we had a really good test. I came into this test not having any experience in these types of cars, and also having never worked with the No. 83 team before, so it was really nice to see how well we all worked together. I really enjoyed my first Sprint Cup test and am glad to have had this opportunity.”

Er…. did he just say “first” test? We think so. Gentlemen, start your rumors.

Lotus has just announced that a of October 1st, former Ferrari executive Dany Bahar will take over at the helm of Group Lotus plc. Bahar moves into the position after former Lotus CEO Mike Kimberly retired in July due to health reasons.

At Ferrari Bahar worked as Senior VP of Commercial and Brand, where he oversaw not only the important job of road car sales, but also the lucrative merchandising aspect of the Italian automaker. Previous to to the position at Ferrari, he worked for Red Bull and helped organize the partnership between Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso with Ferrari, as well as the energy drink company’s NASCAR efforts.

“Lotus has a worldwide reputation for innovative engineering and superb sports cars that lead the world in efficiency, design and dynamics,” Bahar said in a  statement. “With the recent launch of the award-winning Evora, there is proof that Lotus is better placed than many to capitalize on the rapidly changing automotive market. I can’t wait to get my plans underway in October.”

One has to wonder if Bahar’s appoitment will usher in an era where Lotus returns its full efforts to the field of motorsports.

Ferrari has officially declared that if FIA president Max Mosley intends to go through with his plan for a two-teared budgetary system in Formula 1 he can count the prancing horse out.

In a statement Ferrari’s board of directors declared that if the FIA goes ahead with it’s plans, “then the reasons underlying Ferrari’s uninterrupted participation in the World Championship over the last 60 years – the only constructor to have taken part ever since its inception in 1950 – would come to a close.”

The board blasted Mosley stating that, “The rules of governance that have contributed to the development of Formula 1 over the last 25 years have been disregarded, as have the binding contractual obligations between Ferrari and the FIA itself regarding the stability of the regulations.”

Ferrari is the first manufacturer to officially declare it would pull, after Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have made remarks that they might pull. Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso team owner v has also declared a boycott if Mosley goes ahead with his new rules.

As the most popular and marketable team in Formula 1, Ferrari’s threat is akin to the Yankees quitting baseball.

What exactly this new rule setup includes is a two-tiered setup with some teams spending an unlimited amount of cash to compete while other teams would have a £40 million  cap – not including driver salaries, marketing, engines or fines. Teams in the £40 class could use adjustable front and rear wings and have engines with unlimited revving capabilities.

There is speculation that the adjustable aerodynamics might provide an advantage that no amount of money spent on engineering could exceed, making high-dollar teams uncompetitive.

As well as practical reasons, Ferrari opposes the FIA’s two-tiered system in principle.

“The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA’s (Formula One Teams Association) endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula 1 are the priorities for the future,” reads the statement. “If these indispensable principles are not respected and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula 1 World Championship.”

The board of directors also asked that Ferrari’s many fans understand that the decision not to race in 2010 under the current rules was a difficult one but that it is consistent with Ferrari’s racing principles.

Maranello 12 May 2009 – Ferrari’s Board of Directors, chaired by Luca di Montezemolo,
today analysed the first quarter results for 2009. Despite the current international
economic climate, which has hit the automotive sector in particular, Ferrari’s figures were
in line with the record levels reached in 2008.

Turnover for the first three months was 441 million euro compared to 455.7 million euro
over the same period in 2008.

The first quarter closed with a trading profit of 54 million euro compared to last year’s 59
million euro.

These results reflect the introduction of new models, in particular the success of the Ferrari
California and the Scuderia Spider 16M, the constant growth in activities linked to the
brand (e-commerce, licensing, merchandising and retail) and the company’s continuing
efforts to maximise efficiency.

The Board of Directors also examined developments related to recent decisions taken by
the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile during an extraordinary meeting of the
World Motor Sport Council on 29 April 2009. Although this meeting was originally called
only to examine a disciplinary matter, the decisions taken mean that, for the first time ever
in Formula 1, the 2010 season will see the introduction of two different sets of regulations
based on arbitrary technical rules and economic parameters.

The Board considers that if this is the regulatory framework for Formula 1 in the future,
then the reasons underlying Ferrari’s uninterrupted participation in the World
Championship over the last 60 years – the only constructor to have taken part ever since
its inception in 1950 – would come to a close.

The Board also expressed its disappointment about the methods adopted by the FIA in
taking decisions of such a serious nature and its refusal to effectively reach an
understanding with constructors and teams. The rules of governance that have
contributed to the development of Formula 1 over the last 25 years have been disregarded,
as have the binding contractual obligations between Ferrari and the FIA itself regarding
the stability of the regulations.

The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA’s
endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula 1
are the priorities for the future. If these indispensable principles are not respected and if
the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its
cars in the next Formula 1 World Championship.

Ferrari trusts that its many fans worldwide will understand that this difficult decision is
coherent with the Scuderia’s approach to motor sport and to Formula 1 in particular,
always seeking to promote its sporting and technical values.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors was mandated to evaluate the most suitable ways
and methods to protect the company’s interests.
