The Shelby Series 1 originally came out in 1999 and was heralded as the only vehicle designed and built from the ground up by Carroll Shelby and his company. Now one of the late production Shelby 1 vehicles produced in 2005 can be yours with just 451-miles on the odometer and a price tag of $129,900.

The Series 1 was developed as a descendant of the legendary Cobra, featuring carbon fiber construction, race-inspired suspension components and a new-age Oldsmobile 4.0L V8 powerplant with 320-hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. The result is a one-of-a-kind sports car that goes 0-60 mph in just 4.4-seconds and runs a 12-second quarter mile time and a top speed of 170-mph.

Suspension wise, Shelby’s Series 1 features coilover shocks and independent rear suspension. Impressively, brakes come from a Chevrolet C5 Corvette, while Shelby outfits each corner with their custom three-piece wheels in a staggered 18×10-inch and 18×12-inch setup.

Inside, the Series 1 is pure luxury with deep leather bucket seats and a custom dash with some off-the-shelf GM components. Even though it carries quite a hefty price tag, it’s a small price to pay for a very rare and perfect piece of machinery.

The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 might not have the wedge shape of a European supercar, but its 202 mph top speed puts it in a rareified world of hand-built Italian exotics.

SVT engineer Jamal Hameedi told MustangsDaily that the GT500 recorded a top speed of 202 mph during testing, thanks to the improved power figures and some apparent aerodynamic changes. Hameedi also said that while Ford was doing suspension testing at the famed Nurburgring, they didn’t record any times for the GT500, avoiding the typical Nurburgring bragging rights contest that so many automakers fall prey to.

Whoever said money can’t buy happiness obviously never had a Shelby Cobra and an empty living room.

The exact reason for this extreme level of hoonage isn’t known. Maybe the bank foreclosed on his house. Maybe, as one YouTube commented speculates, the talented driver in question just went through a divorce: he got the car, she go the house.

Have you ever gone to an auto show and fell in love with a concept car? Yes, we have too, so no need to feel embarrassed.

However, if you have the means, you can possibly own two concept cars shown by Ford in the last decade. We are talking about the 2001 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster Concept and the 2004 Ford Shelby GR-1 Concept.

Both these vehicles will be presented by RM Auctions at their upcoming event held in Monterey, CA. on August 19th.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a charity Ford has supported over the years.

As for the cars, while the Thunderbird Sports Roadster concept is a functioning vehicle, the Shelby GR-1 is just a rolling platform. While the GR-1 cannot be driven, we think its still better than buying an ancient oil painting.

RM Auctions predicts the Thunderbird Sports Roadster concept will fetch between $125,000 – $175,000, while the beautiful Shelby GR-1 will get between $150,000 – $200,000.

This auction is part of the annual Pebble Beach Concours event which attracts the worlds rarest cars and also some of the world’s wealthiest people. It truly is an auto show like no other.

Carroll Shelby (or rather, his well-lubricated PR machine) has responded to the charges of rape and employment hostility raised by former secretary Angelica Smith, labeling the lawsuit “frivolous.”

Shelby claims that Smith was fired not because she went to him with charges of rape (from another employee), but because The Shelbster simply didn’t need a secretary anymore. The company will fight the allegations to the end.

The full statement reads: “Carroll Shelby is disappointed that such wild and fantastical allegations have been made by a former employee.  The fact is that her position was no longer required due to Mr. Shelby’s age, health and work schedule.   But this apparently disgruntled former employee and her counsel have chosen to turn this into yet another prematurely publicized, frivolous lawsuit against a public figure.  Carroll Shelby has full confidence in the judicial system and believes that the truth will come out through the legal process.”

The legendary Carroll Shelby is being sued by a receptionist, who claims that she was sexually assaulted by Shelby as well as raped by another employee, then fired.

Angelica Smith was hired by Shelby as his secretary in 2005, but ended up becoming a personal servant—and claims that Shelby sent her out to buy liquor and pornography for him. Shelby “ran a pervasively hostile work environment” that involved groping Smith at his home, and another time when another Shelby employee drugged and raped her in December 2010.

Smith went to Shelby to report him, but ended up getting fired. Now she’s suing both Shelby, who certainly has plenty of lawsuit experience, the Shelby company, as well as the rapist in question for $5 million in damages.

Knowing Shelby, however, he’ll probably find a way to sue her instead.

Shelby has just unveiled the name of its upcoming supercar, the SSC Tuatara, which is expected to reclaim the position as the fastest production car in the world.

The American automaker’s previous model, the Ultimate Aero TT, came equipped with a twin turbocharged V8 which produced 1,287-hp and beat the Bugatti Veyron. The Aero TT achieved a top speed of 414 km/h (257 mph). However the speed record was reclaimed by the Bugatti Veyrom Super Sport.

The Tuatara name was chosen because of inspiration drawn from the lizard that lives in New Zealand. The name means “peaks on the back”, which is symbolic to the winglets on the back of the new car. The reptile also possesses the fastest evolving DNA on the planet, which inspired Jerod Shelby. Shelby said, “Most manufacturers essentially use the same basic model and body shape for up to 10 years, while only making small refinements to it each year. After only three years in production with the Ultimate Aero, SSC’s Tuatara is about to monumentally evolve in the areas of sophistication, design, aerodynamics and shear all‐around performance. We felt that the fastest evolving DNA was a perfect definition of SSC’s latest project”.

Details on the Tuatara are still top secret but what is known is that the car will be powered by a 7.0-liter DOHC V8 twin-turbo cranking out around 1,350-hp. The car will weigh approximately 1,200 kg (2,654 lbs) and will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds.  The Tuatara is also expected to have a top speed of 442 km/h (275 mph).

The twin-turbocharged rumors surrounding the next generation Mustang GT500 have been put to bed according to reports on the web of the Ford’s decision to hold onto its supercharger.

Even with the blower, Ford is confident that it will release the next-gen GT500 with enough power to shake off the menacing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The current GT500 produces 550-hp and sources have indicated that the new model will have at least 20-hp more.

A completely redesigned Mustang is slated to debut in 2014 as a 2015 model. Specifics on the redesign are still unknown but info will soon be released! Stay tuned for more info!

Well, here’s a new one. In a world where front end and rear end conversions are long gone – thankfully – the Internet has found a new gem that even the most creative car builders might scratch their heads on. Now before you think we’re completely hating on this build, we have to commend the overall craftsmanship that was involved in putting it together. The front end and rear end conversion are actually nicely done, flowing well with the overall body lines of the BMW E23 7-Series. Of course these photos aren’t exactly the highest of quality, but the fit and finish seem pretty impressive.

What we have here is a rare first-generation BMW 7-Series sporting a Shelby Mustang front end and a rear end conversion sporting the unmistakable look of an R34 Skyline GT-R. Is it something we’d ever do? Probably not. But when it comes to a cookie-cutter world, we have to commend those that think outside the box. Even if it’s way outside the box.

Carroll Shelby is arguably the greatest American motoring icon to have ever lived, and even at 88 years of age, he is showing no signs of slowing down.

At the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, Shelby rolled out the 2012 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. Unlike the GT500, the GT350 is not finished at Ford, but rather at the Shelby American facility in Las Vegas, NV.

For 2012, Shelby is offering his performance package on the convertible model for the first time since 1970 (coupe also still available). The new GT350 gets new bumpers, hood, wheels and colors to differentiate it from other Mustangs. You also get to pick how much power you’d like to handle. The base model gets 430-hp, from the normally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8, or you can choose to throw in one of two supercharger kits which can take the power upto 525-hp or 624-hp. So the tradition of fast Shelby’s continue.

Only 350 units of the GT350 will be produced for 2012, so if you want one, act fast. Prices start at $26,995 on top of the price for the donor.

How this prototype flew under the radar this long, we’re not even sure. But Shelby American and Nelson Racing Engines have teamed up to produce a twin-turbo Ford Shelby GT500 that pumps out over 1,000-rwhp. The Code Red GT500 is still in a prototype phase, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Shelby offers the package to enthusiasts in the near future.

Nelson Racing Engines has modified the GT500 powerplant to a 5.4L V8 paired to two 61mm Turbonetics turbochargers. Plenty of fuel has also been dumped into the system to ensure a proper air/fuel ratio with all the extra air. The dual fuel system includes fuel cells for both race and street gas, and of course an electronic boost controller regulates boost levels at varying rpms and gears.

We’ll be willing to guess that if Shelby chooses to release this package to the public, they’ll also complement it with their standard modifications including Baer’s big brake upgrade, adjustable suspension co-branded with Eibach, a Currie rear end, and more. Shelby currently estimates that a package would cost a significant $100,000 or so – vehicle not included.
