Following the infamous incident at the 2011 Targa Newfoundland where Zahir Rana, owner of ZR Auto, sent his Edo Ferrari Enzo, careening it into the Atlantic Ocean, Rana will return to the open road event.

Rana was upbeat in an interview immediately after his crash, “Gee, this was so much fun, I’m going to do it again. Gonna do bigger, better next time,” he said.

Finally, after six months of work, the car was ready and Rana proudly displays the result. For the Ferrari Enzo’s inaugural return, Rana will visit the ATP test center in Papenburg, Germany to conduct top-speed testing.

Three months ago, Zahir Rana crashed into the Atlantic Ocean while racing the Targa Newfoundland Rally in his $2 million modified Ferrari Enzo. The owner of exotic car dealer ZR Auto, Zahir Rana emerged from the accident without a scratch while his Enzo suffered $100,000 in damages.

Then, thanks to a video of the crash uploaded to YouTube, Rana and his Ferrari became an internet sensation overnight, garnering more than a million views in its first week. Although he received criticism from those who mocked his ability to pilot a Ferrari as well as those that disapproved his expensive hobby, Rana answered his critics by shipping his Enzo back to Germany for repairs and for the fitment of a new, more powerful, 950-hp motor.

During an interview after the incident, Rana said, “It gave me another thing to live for.” In fact, Rana adds, “Gee, this was so much fun, I’m going to do it again. Gonna do bigger, better next time.”

Rana is well into laying the groundwork for his return to Targa Newfoundland next year. Preparing his refurbished Ferrari, Rana will be joined with a surprising number of fellow racers as well. Rana reveals, “Next year I’m going back again with 20 cars. All my friends and clients are now envious. They said, ‘oh we should have gone.’ It should be great. I’m looking forward to it.”

It’s always difficult to see a Ferrari get wrecked. A little more than a week ago, Zahir Rana became a household name after he spun out his monstrously powerful modified Ferrari Enzo into the ocean while he was participating in the Targa Newfoundland race.

Now, new details have surfaced from his facebook page and we’re pleased to learn that the Ferrari Enzo will receive repairs. In fact, they’ll be done at Edo Competition in Germany, the same shop that did much of the Enzo’s past modifications. And what better way for a Ferrari to go than by air transport.

Unfazed, Zahir Rana hinted at the return of the Ferrari at the ‘Race the Base’, a top speed event across an airfield at Cold Lake Alberta, next year.

It competed in (and completed) the gruelling Targa Newfoundland last September. Now the same Kia Forte Koup, that was driven by Adam Hill and Mark Kostick of Team ‘Wishful Thinking,’ is now going to be auctioned off for charity.

The team, which partnered with The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, managed to raise more than $100,000 during the race, in addition, Kia dealerships across Canada contributed to the cause by committing part of the proceeds from the sale of each new vehicle between August 16 and September 18 last year.

The Targa Kia Koup, now having finished its auto circuit tour, is being auctioned on eBay and all proceeds from the sale will go to the Children’s Wish Foundation. For more information on the auction, click on the link below.

It’s one of the most unique and perhaps gruelling motorsports events in North America, but the Targa Newfoundland, now in it’s eighth year, can also be one of the most rewarding.

Kia Canada is one of the longest participating automakers, having fielded official works cars in five events, including the inaugural race back in 2002. This year’s event marks a “natural extension of the company’s U.S. motorsports program,” according to an official Kia press release, that began last fall with road racing.

In conjunction with the Kinetic Group, Kia has fielded race prepped Koups in the Koni Challenge series and has now entered a car in the Targa’s modern class, driven by Adam Hill and Mark Kostick. The car was modified for the rally use by Sherwood Kia, a dealership in Edmonton Alberta, Canada and both Hill and Kostick have partnered with Team Wishful Thinking as part of an effort to raise $100,000 for the Children’s Wish Foundation.

This year’s Targa which takes place between September 10-18; covers a distance of some 1,375 miles (2200 km) and if past years are anything to go by, will likely be a real car breaker. Inspired by the original Targa Florio and latter day Targa Tasmania, competitors drive on closed public roads at speeds of up to 100 mph or more. With the Targa Newfoundland just two weeks away, Stillen has unleashed its race-ready Nissan GT-R upon the internet.

Prior to the race Stillen took its 620hp monster to the El Toro Marine base for a little performance test organized by Road & Track and the results are more than impressive. The tests revealed a 0-60 mph time of just 2.9 seconds, with a 1/4 mile time of 11 seconds flat at 127.9 mph! Don’t believe us? Watch the video below.

Along with a host of performance adders, like a Turbosmart boost controller and a Stillen exhaust setup, the Stillen GT-R also received a set of AP Racing brakes, Eibach springs and several other Stillen suspension bits. Stillen even set about manufacturing a polyurethane body kit and then contracted Password JDM for a long list of carbon fiber panels. Those panels, along with a stripped-out interior, mean the Stilen GT-R weighs significantly less than stock.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye on Steve Millen’s progress at the Targa Newfoundland, which runs from September 12th to 19th.

Several months ago world renowned racer Steve Millen announced his intentions to race in the Targa Newfoundland road rally in a Nissan GT-R prepped by his own tuner shop – Stillen.

Now Stillen has announced that it is running a contest, the winner of which will receive an all expenses paid round trip for two to watch Steve and his GT-R in action over the course of seven days and six nights on “the extreme edge of North America.”

For the past several years Steve Millen has competed in the New Zealand Dunlop Targa Rally in a Stillen modified Ford GT, but for 2009 the legendary race car driver will travel to the Canadian province of Newfoundland in a Nissan GT-R.

Stillen has just announced plans to enter the 6-day 1,400 mile Targa Newfoundland rally, held on the winding public (but closed for the rally) roads of Newfoundland and has already begun work on modifying its GT-R.

The company says they plan to keep some of the modifications secret but they have released some details. For starters the car will be significantly lighter and the while most of the interior will be removed, racing seats will be installed and many of the body panels will be replaced with lighter carbon fiber parts. In terms of the suspension, Stillen plans on upgrading the shocks and even using adjustable sway bars so they can change the dynamics of the car depending on the roads. An upgraded brake package from AP Racing will also be installed.

Finally, Stillen intends to increase the power of the GT-R with a new performance exhaust, ECU tuning and upgraded intercoolers.

Held for the past 7 years the Targa Newfoundland continues to grow as it provides the sort of on-road thrills that are normally either illegal or tend to happen in other parts of the world.
