Toyota’s struggling Scion brand will soon get some much needed new product, with an insider confirming a new hatchback will be added to the lineup as well as a product the brand has never before offered, a sedan.
Not to be Taken Auris-lly
In North America Toyota is known for a couple signature vehicles. Over the decades they’ve sold legions of Camrys and more Prius hybrids than you might expect. Beyond these core products the company also offers a host of other models, from the full-size Tundra pickup truck to the FJ Cruiser sport utility.
At the Johannesburg International Motor Show in South Africa, Toyota introduced their latest 5-door hatch in TRD supercharged form. The Auris TRD will feature a supercharged 1.6L with 178-hp and 149 lb-ft of torque, up 48-hp and 31 lb-ft from the standard model and looks to be launched sometime in November.
Even though the Auris is not sold in North America, the Auris has become fairly popular in other markets as the successor of the popular Corolla. The TRD variant is poised to replace the SportX in South Africa, with TRD also adding a sportier suspension and a body kit in addition to the supercharger.
No pricing was announced for the Auris TRD.
“It’s been a while since I’ve used ‘Toyota” and ‘awesome’ in the same sentence,” said one AutoGuide staffer, “but these pictures are really cool.”
Toyota played a large roll in this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, displaying some cool race and road cars, and the company was wise enough to take a whole bunch of pictures and throw them on a Flickr account for everyone to enjoy. Aside from the aforementioned rally cars, there’s also a hotted-up Toyota iQ, the FT-86 concept car, a Hilux pickup truck and an ice racing car based on the European-market Auris – bet you’ve never seen one of those before.
