Audi, along with other manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari, have taken to YouTube recently to send out thanks to each company’s fans and faithfuls, releasing videos of cars doing extraordinary things. Audi has now revealed a follow up, which chronicles the making of its thank you video.

 The first video features an Audi R8, stock from the showroom, burning some rubber and doing donuts, all to spell out the number 500,000 on the asphalt, a tribute to 500,000 Facebook fans. In this follow up video, Audi race car driver Dindo Capello talks about his experiences making the video, and the challenges he faced trying to write numbers by lighting up a set of tires.

Lexus apparently loaned an LFA supercar to skateboarding legend Tony Hawk for a few days, but after seeing the shenanigans that Hawk does with the rare Lexus, they may reconsider sending him another loaner vehicle.

Hawk must have had a lot of confidence in his stunt, since the LFA costs a whopping $375,000. Luckily he doesn’t ding it up. Hawk now joins an exclusive club of athletes (usually basketball players) that have jumped over a vehicle, rubbing elbows with the likes of Blake Griffin and Kobe Bryant.

Unintended acceleration is back, this time involving a Hyundai instead of a Toyota. At least that’s what it looks like in a video uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday that has already almost gathered a million views. 

Recorded on a dash cam, the video shows a Hyundai YF Sonata at a traffic light behind another Hyundai. Then, seemingly out of nowhere the car starts speeding up. Before long it’s flying through a crowded street at more than 117 km/h (72 mph) according to what the camera shows on the top of the screen.

As would be expected, it isn’t long before the driver runs out of room to steer around the other cars and violently rear-ends someone.

The driver is blaming unintended acceleration for the incident and it would seem hard to argue against it. Then again, it seems a little fishy that there just happened to be a dash cam on board and running at the time. The question then becomes whether or not anyone would really risk their life like that, and why?

Burnouts are an awesome, and expensive way to waste tires. Of course, the competitors in burnout contests know this, but none would expect what happens in this video.

At the 4th annual NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals in Commerce, Ga., last month, one competitor was performing an admirable burnout, until his tire caught fire. Luckily the flames were isolated to the tire and it didn’t look like they spread and damaged the rest of the Mustang.

So there you go, where there’s smoke, even if its from tires, there’s fire.

Don’t think the new BMW M5, or M3 are performance oriented enough? BMW apparently knows the feeling, and is teasing new versions of the M3 Coupe and M5 Sedan.

The videos don’t show much, but the main details are in the descriptions. Only 30 BMW M3 M Performance Editions will be available in three unique ‘Frozen’ paintwork colors. That exclusivity is also to be found in the M5 version as well: 30 across three paint jobs.

These two cars seem to feature the whole catalogue of BMW’s M Performance add-ons as well making them quite “The Ultimate Driving Machine.”

So far the videos indicate that the M Performance versions will be U.K. exclusive, but earlier this month BMW mentioned the M Performance parts that are available to U.S. customers as well.

We don’t know if these models will feature upgraded engine output. It’s unlikely since none of the parts in the M Performance boost horsepower.

Cadillac is releasing its new XTS sedan to market soon, and to preview the car to the public the company has released a new commercial. 

The spot highlights the new driver seat vibration system, which rumbles the seat to alert the driver of unseen hazards. This is an industry first for physical sensor warning systems.

Catrinel Menghia, the lingerie model who starred in the Fiat brand’s sexy Super Bowl ad is back in several new spots for the Italian automaker.

Helping promote the new Fiat 500 Abarth performance model, the ad was a clear indication of a change in gears from the automaker, after dropping its female US brand boss and its female-targeted J-Lo ads for some sex appeal directed right at a male audience.

Lexus‘ new design language is catching attention. The spindle grille and more aggressive styling is serving to take what was becoming a bland-looking brand into a newly vital luxury line.

We originally saw the 2013 Lexus LX debut in Detroit last January, but there hasn’t been much else about the large SUV since then. That’s mostly because aside from the styling updates found across the board, there isn’t really anything new. The same 5.7-liter V8 making  383 hp and 403 lb-ft of torque and electronically-controlled six-speed automatic transmission send power to the wheels in the LX 570.

That is by no means a bad thing and doesn’t change the fact that the original LX, which debuted in 1996 as a Toyota Land Cruiser in a tuxedo, is still carrying its luxurious tradition of rugged capability and genteel style.

A couple of new videos featuring the LX just surfaced and while they don’t offer any new information, there’s some beautiful scenery on tap.

Update: The price referred to in this story does not reflect American pricing. We now know that the Juke-R will cost around $590,000 in U.S. dollars.

In a surprise move, Nissan announced that it will offer production versions of its insane Juke-R concept though only on a per-order basis and in a limited supply.

The insanity began late last year when the automaker’s ever-intrepid RML engineers decided to surgically enhance the Juke crossover with a GT-R drivetrain, creating one of the most ticklishly entertaining sports concepts to date. Two were built and released to be driven on public roads, but further Juke-R generations seemed not the least bit likely — as is the case with almost all cars like this.

Throwing convention to the dogs, Nissan announced during a presentation of its online movie starring gamer-turned-racer Lucas Ordonez, that it will offer a limited number of the freakish Jukes to the public.

Further sweetening the news, it seems the 458-hp engine on tap in the concept will be scrapped in favor of the GT-R’s updated 545-hp twin-turbo V6.

In case you missed our previous coverage or forgot the specs, the modified Juke gets widened wheel arches, a fixed rear spoiler, full body kit, the same 20-inch wheels as the GT-R as well as it’s touch-screen interface, a four-wheel drive controller and ECU. Oh, and the rear seats are gone too in favor of a heavy roll cage to stiffen the body and brace for all the extra power.

“The Juke-R was originally intended as a one-off concept to marry two of Nissan’s most innovative models. But the reaction we had to the car in Dubai was amazing–people were making offers for the original on the street,” Gareth Dunsmore, European marketing chief for the Juke said.

The car will cost around $200,000 and units are already rumored to be on order for a couple of Dubai dignitaries. Delivery is scheduled to start this Summer so if the price tag doesn’t scare you off and blowing the doors off every other car sounds like fun then put an order in by emailing Nissan at: Juke-R@Nissan.co.uk.

What happens when you scoop a Nissan Juke’s guts out with a mellon baller and replace them with pure testosterone? In case you forgot, it’s the Juke-R.

Completely modified and gutted, the two-seater frankencar is every bit as GT-R spirited as enthusiasts hoped it to be. Earlier this year we featured a video of the pugnacious car embarrassing a host of exotics and now there’s more.

The automaker released a series of annoyingly short but undeniably cool videos giving you more of the same odd-ball auto dominance.

As seen below, the clips are meant to promote a recently-shot short film about Lucus Ordonez, a PlayStation Gran Turismo gamer turned pro racer. In the film, we will see the 485-hp Juke-R pitted against cars like a Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes SLS AMG and Ferrari 458 Italia in Dubai.

In an interesting marketing tactic, Ford‘s latest commercial uses an unusual scheme to get attention: it doesn’t mention the brand at all.

Viewers are used to commercials like the chest-thumping superbowl commercials that throw branding in your face like a team dumping the water jug on its coach after a big win. Unlike Chevrolet’s ad, which did exactly that, Ford is taking a more modest approach in an attempt to make viewers curious.

The ad, which was released to the internet yesterday, talks about innovative cars and their features. You see interior, exterior and motion shots, but everywhere you would expect to see a blue oval, or some other identifying mark, there is only blank space.

It’s a clever trick because there are still probably plenty of consumers who assume the Ford name is a red flag for bad vehicles. With its recent effort to bring about a more European style, pulling the badges and talking about premium features is probably a good way of eliminating predetermined bias.

Drifting has become an automotive phenomenon around the world with race leagues devoted to the sideways sport, leading drifters to push the limits constantly.

The King of Europe Drift league is one example of an entire organization devoting to the art of the drift, and with no vehicles biases, all types of mean machines show up. The video shows some of the racers skills as they drift side by side, in full circles and right through some really long turns. One enthusiast even brought a full size highway tractor, complete with over sized wing on the back.

Nothing is better than watching a big rig go sideways — during a drift, that is.
