We love Volkswagen‘s new Scirocco, which is why we hate to see this happen to one of the cars. During last week’s Scirocco R Cup Race at the Norisring in Nuremberg, driver Dennis Rieger appears to hit the inside wall on a turn, sending him up on two wheels. Unable to steer properly, Rieger’s car seems just about to flip as it slams into the wall on what appears to be the front straight. Luckily Rieger wasn’t seriously hurt in the accident.
The Scirocco R, for those who don’t know, is the hard-core version of the new Scirocco, boasting a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine to makes 265-hp and 258 ft-lbs of torque. VW doesn’t sell any of the Scirocco models here and has no plans to for fear it would cannibalize sales of the GTI. Sadly, we have to agree.
