After starting out life building airplanes for the Swedish Air Force in World War II, Saab began to turn to automobiles in 1944. According to Saab, company’s very first car was designed and hand built by 16 aircraft engineers – only one of which had a driver’s license. By 1949 the aerodynamic Saab 92 began production and in 1967 the Saab 67 was introduced, the automaker’s first of many turbocharged models.
