Born out of decades of racing history, including numerous Formula One World Championships, McLaren Automotive was founded in 1989 but didn't introduce its first car until 1992. The McLaren F1 became an icon, setting a new top speed record that lasted for a full decade. Followed by the McLaren Mercedes SLR, Mercedes went back to focus on racing before launching its modern era of exotic cars in 2011 with the MP4-12C.
