2012 Ferrari Cars
The flagship band of the Fiat empire, Ferrari currently offers four main models including the 458 Italia, the 599, FF and California. A 458 Spider (convertible) model has also recently joined the brand’s lineup, while Ferrari also offers limited edition cars like the 599 GTO and SA Aperta.
Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929 the company initially built race cars before it began producing street-legal production cars to help fund the motorsports effort. The first production car was the V12 powered 125 S, which launched in 1947. Ferrari considered a sale to Ford in 1963 but eventually pulled back from a deal at the last minute, sparking Ford’s creation of the GT40.
Ferrari is well-known for its heavy involvement in Formula 1 racing, which it uses as a test and development program for new technologies for its street cars. Perhaps its biggest claim to fame is its supercar program, which began in 1988 with the creation of the F40, succeeded by the F50 and then the Enzo.
Historic models continue to fetch some of the highest dollars of any cars at auction, while looking to the future, Ferrari has rebuffed the idea of electric cars and instead has hinted that it will employ hybrid technology in the future.
