2011 Ford Cars
Perhaps best known for icons like the F-Series truck line and Mustang sports car, Ford has more recently made a major push to down-size its vehicles with cars like the Focus and Fiesta. Smaller engines are also part of the mix with new EcoBoost technology using both direct-injection and turbocharging. The Blue Oval is also trending away from SUVs and towards crossovers, revamping the Explorer for 2011 on a new car-based platform while continuing to sell the Edge and Flex. An all-new Escape compact crossover is also set to arrive this year. Ford continues to offer staple products like the Fusion mid-size family sedan and Taurus full-size sedan. Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) builds high-performance street machines, and most recently the off-road capable F-150 Raptor.
Founded by Henry Ford in 1903, the Ford Motor Company is credited for introducing the assembly line as a way of mass-producing vehicles, including the Model T. Under the Ford umbrella is the Lincoln luxury division, while the mid-level Mercury brand was killed-off in 2011. In the 1980s and ‘90s Ford acquired Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin, eventually selling them all off just prior to the Great Recession, helping to stave off bankruptcy; something that seriously improved the brand’s perception. Ford continues to own a small stake in Mazda and Aston Martin.
