2011 GMC Cars

A truck and SUV division of General Motors, GMC’s most popular models include the Sierra pickup and Yukon SUV. Also available are the Canyon mid-size pickup and a range of Heavy Duty pickup trucks available with GMC’s Duramax diesel engine and Allison transmission combo.

In 2007 GMC began offering its first crossover, the Acadia, which shares its platform with the Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse. Historically GMC models have all been based on Chevrolet platforms, including the brand’s most recent addition, the Terrain compact crossover riding on the same underpinnings as the Chevy Equinox.

Dating all the way back to 1901, GMC was bough by General Motors in 1909. Initially building commercial trucks, GMC continues to offer HD trucks and its Savana van. Staying clear of the heavy duty truck segment since the ‘80s, GMC did offer the medium duty TopKick from 2003 to 2009.

Seeing the appeal of GMC’s bold truck design on crossovers with the success of the Acadia and Terrain, GMC’s most recent concept, the Granite, hints at an even more compact future for this serious truck brand.
