New Car Finder
After more than forty years, Jaguar has reinvented its XJ sedan. The 2011 XJ is a sleek, spacious, sophisticated luxury car with dramatic lines that lend themselves to those normally reserved for sports coupes.
...more
The car comes in four different models--the XJ, the Supercharged and the Supersport, all of which are available in either standard or long wheelbases. Power across the range is derived from an advanced 5.0-liter V8 with dual independent variable cam timing. In the XJ, it produces 385 hp and 380 ft-lb of torque. The supercharged version features twin air intakes, variable inlet cam timing and the latest Eaton supercharger. The 470-hp version found in the Supercharged XJ will propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds according to Jaguar, while the 510-hp iteration available in the top-line Supersport will do the sprint in just 4.7 seconds. Power in all XJ models is put to the rear wheels through an electronic 6-speed automatic transmission with Jaguar's sequential shift which adapts to driving styles and shifts at optimum engine speeds. Gears can also be shifted manually using steering wheel-mounted paddles.
If power is available in spades in the new XJ, so too is refinement. Depending on the model, owners can specify up to eleven interior colors and ten elegant veneers to taste, and for leather surfaces, there are eight different colors and three grades. Attractive phosphor blue lines of light illuminate the cabin at night and a handsome analog clock with a spun-metal face sits prominently in the center of the dash.
Interior amenities include Jag's Smart Key System, with keyless entry and start. Integrated controls on the heated steering wheel allow drivers to access the car's impressive entertainment system and the fully automatic, dual-zone climate control features particle and odor filtration, humidity control and automatic window demisting. In the XJL and all supercharged models, the system is 4-zone to allow individual control for rear passengers as well. Long-wheelbase models incorporate rear business trays in handcrafted wood veneer.
The XJ is loaded with technology, which enhances both its driving capabilities and the experience within the cabin. JaguarDrive Control offers selectable modes for different driving conditions and moods, from slick roads where Winter Mode is required, to backroads where Dynamic Mode works with the suspension for a sportier drive. In the supercharged cars, a sophisticated active differential distributes torque to the rear wheels to suit the traction and current driving dymanics. Adaptive cruise control, standard on Supersport models, employs radar technology to monitor the road ahead and adjust the XJ's following distance while driving with cruise control engaged.
Inside, Jaguar iTech features an interactive HD touchscreen with navigation, virtual instruments, interactive voice controls and a media hub. A 1,200-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, designed specifically for the XJ, combines 20 speakers and state-of-the-art sound processing to deliver exceptional sound quality. A rear seat entertainment system allows passengers to watch DVDs or listen to music stored in the car's hard disk.
Safety is paramount in the new XJ, rooted in the car's aluminum and magnesium bodyshell. A bevy of airbags and active seatbelts help protect all occupants in the event of a crash, while an advanced anti-lock braking system helps drivers avoid accidents in the first place.
2011 Jaguar XJ Model Changes
The Jaguar XJ is all-new for 2011. The flagship model is a complete departure from the XJ we've seen for the last forty years and it carries a sleek design, loads of standard technical and luxury features and is available in several models--XJ, XJ Supercharged and XJ Supersport. Power for the range comes from a new 5.0-liter V8, which is tuned to deliver 385 hp in the base cars, specially equipped to produce 480 hp in the Supercharged models, and supercharged with special tuning to put out 510 hp in the Supersport. Prices range from $71,650 to $114,150.
