The Yaris is offered in three different body styles: a 4-door sedan, 3-door liftback and 5-door liftback. All 2011 Toyota Yaris models come with a 106-horsepower, 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, making 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque. With variable valve timing, the engine is quite flexible and responsive and works quite well with the available 4-speed automatic transmission or 5-speed automatic. Although the Yaris Sedan shares its mechanicals with the Yaris Liftbacks, its wheelbase is three and a half inches longer, it's nearly 19 inches longer and the Sedan's roofline is 2.5 inches lower.

The Liftback's shorter length pays off in a very short turning circle of just 30.8 feet, while both models include a MacPherson strut-type front suspension and torsion-beam rear setup that's tuned for quite good ride comfort.

There are a number of differences between Yaris Sedan and Yaris Liftback models, ranging from styling details inside and out to significant feature differences. All Yaris models feature the gauge cluster mounted high in the middle of the instrument panel, but the design of the center-stack sound-system and climate control features is different between the models.

Yaris Sedan models include a roomy 12.9-cubic-foot trunk, while Liftback models have 9.3 cubic feet of cargo space that can easily be expanded to 25.7 by folding the seatbacks folded flat. With the optional Convenience Package in either model, the back seats are split 60/40 for combinations of passengers and cargo.

Standard features on all Yaris models include air conditioning, intermittent wipers, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and a rear window defogger. Front-seat side airbags, along with roll-sensing side-curtain airbags, are included on all Yaris models, the back seat has LATCH child-seat anchors in both outboard positions. A Power Package adds power locks, windows and mirrors, plus keyless entry, while a Sport Package brings fog lamps, front sport seats, leather steering wheel and shift-knob trim, color-keyed spoilers, a rear spoiler, and an upgraded sound system with iPod interface, auxiliary input, and XM Satellite Radio capability. Larger 15-inch alloy wheels and cruise control are among the other options.

2011 Toyota Yaris Model Changes

The Yaris lineup of economical sedans and hatchbacks continues into 2011 with few changes. This year, the Toyota Yaris Liftback models can be specified with a new color, Super White. Beginning last year, Toyota made all the elements of its Star Safety System standard, including electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes and brake assist.
