2012 Chrysler Cars
After emerging from bankruptcy in 2009 Chrysler has significantly paired-down its product offerings with just three models now remaining in its lineup. The brand’s flagship and savior through rough times is the full-size rear-drive 300 sedan, which was completely revamped for 2011. The mid-size Sebring was given a mild makeover the same year and rebadged the 200, with the same badge given to the Sebring Convertible. Chrysler also continues to produce its Town & Country minivan, again significantly updated and improved in 2011.
Founded by Walter Chrysler in 1925, Chrysler vehicles were designed to be aimed at a more premium segment but at more mainstream costs and the company has attempted to stay true to this mandate ever since. In 1998 Chrysler formed a “merger of equals” with Mercedes parent company Daimler-Benz AG, creating DaimlerChrysler AG. Daimler then took over complete control and with a decade of less-than-deal results sold off the company to Cerberus Capital Management in 2007. With dismal sales and a worldwide recession, in 2009 Chrysler entered into and emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with help from Fiat, which has since taken over control of Chrysler.
