Good features..fantastic ride.By Mark F (I am an Owner), May. 27, 2013Kids are all grown up but still wanted a 7 passenger vehicle with great gas mileage. Looked at many and came up with the Mazda 5 or the Mitsubishi Outlander. The Mazda 5 was way too small. So over to ... more
a bargain of an SUVBy andrew (I am an Owner), Jun. 04, 2013I managed to bargain my dealer down to a little below the MSRP on this thing and after taxes and fees were said I came in at the low 20's. Can't ask for much more. The Outlander is practical, gets gre... more
2013 Mitsubishi Outlander OverviewThe Mitsubishi Outlander has two available engines: a 2.4L 4-cylinder making 168 hp, available in the ES and SE trim levels, and a 3.0L V6 making 230 hp in the GT. The 4-cylinder is mated to a continuously variable transmission, while the V6 uses a 6-speed Sportronic automatic transmission. The SE and GT also have standard magnesium paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
The ES, SE and GT all come standard with front-wheel drive, while the SE can also be outfitted with All-Wheel Control. The top-of-the-line Outlander GT also offers Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control System (S-AWC for short). The system detects traction of the front tires and directs power appropriately, improving both safety and performance. A dial allows the driver to select from three settings, depending on conditions: Tarmac, Snow and Lock.
The Outlander is loaded with safety features that make it a smart buy. Six airbags are standard, as are active stability control, traction control, tire pressure monitoring and pedestrian impact crumple zones. In addition to the S-AWC system, the GT also has standard Hill Start Assist.
As for the interior, the ES base model has fabric upholstery with 60/40 split folding rear seats, plus air conditioning, cruise control, power doors and windows and a 6-speaker CD/MP3 stereo. The SE upgrades include a leather-wrapped shift knob and multi-function steering wheel, leather bolsters with sport fabric seats, a 6-CD in-dash changer and Bluetooth.
The GT adds automatic climate control, HID headlamps, independently adjustable rear seats and rain-sensing wipers. The available Touring package includes heated seats, leather seating surfaces and trim, a Rockford Fosgate stereo with SIRIUS satellite radio, a sunroof and a rear camera system.
An available entertainment package includes a rear seat DVD player, a remote control and headphones.
2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Model Changes
Mitsubishi has updated the features and option packages for the Outlander in 2013. All Outlanders now get heated mirrors; while SE and GT trimmed Outlanders receive heated front seats and hands-free audio and navigation functions. SE Outlanders also get automatic climate control while GT Outlanders now come with Satellite Radio.
Several new option packages are also available for 2013, including an all-weather package, an entertainment package, an exterior design package and a tow package.
2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Value
The Mitsubishi Outlander offers a lot of features for its price point. Gas mileage is pretty good too, with the base-level ES turning in 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Even the 7-passenger SE equipped with all-wheel drive gets 18 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway.
As a "crossover," the Outlander blurs the line between sporty handling and sport utility. The 4-cylinder engine is aimed at drivers who want sporty styling along with great fuel economy, while the V6 has significantly more horsepower for spirited driving. The GT trim's Super-All-Wheel Drive Control system is derived from the high-performance system used in the Lancer Evolution.
2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Strengths
Quality interior; available all-wheel drive; family-oriented practicality
