2013 Subaru Cars
Subaru has experienced a strong surge in sales since the 2008 recession, as attractive product like the Outback crossover wagon, Impreza compact car and Forester SUV have proved to be excellent value while also offering standard all-wheel drive. A restyled Legacy sedan has won critical acclaim, while the Impreza WRX and Impreza STi have served as Subaru’s performance car halo models. Only the Tribeca SUV has failed to become a sales success, but the introduction of a new Impreza in 2012, as well as the BRZ sports car should help strengthen Subaru’s position in the market.
Subaru has always been popular in Snowbelt states, but the 2008 recession allowed the brand to position their slate of completely revised products as a sound, reliable alternative to the usual Japanese and American offerings. With a rich motorsports heritage (reflected in the Impreza WRX and Impreza STi performance cars), affordable products and a relatively neutral image in the public eye, Subaru has been able to parlay their cult following into national success. Prior offerings like the SVX sports coupe and the Baja pickup truck proved too quirky for North American tastes, but their more refined lineup on sale today, as well as their fan base of rally enthusiasts, has given the brand a certain cachet that’s reflected in their standard all-wheel drive and range of powerful turbocharged engines.
