2013 Volvo XC90 FWD 4dr R-Design Premier Plus User Reviews
Big of a regretBy Anthony Chang (I am an Owner), Apr. 29, 2013At first, I was excited to own the XC90. It was comfortable, luxurious, and safe like a Volvo should be. But I slowly realized how outdated everything on the XC90 is, from the interior materials to th... more
2013 Volvo XC90 OverviewThe XC90 is available in four different trim levels: Base, Premier Plus, Platinum and R-Design. Even in Base trim the XC90 is well equipped, including luxury features like a power glass moonroof, rear parking assist, a 6-month subscription to SiriusXM Satellite Radio, memory-enabled power front seats and a leather trimmed interior.
Premier Plus adds dual xenon headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, Sovereign Hide soft-leather upholstery and redwood inlays for the dash and gear knob. The Platinum builds on the Premier Plus by adding a navigation system, a rear back up camera and a premium sounds system. The sporty R-Design features sport tuned suspension, variable ratio steering and several attractive styling touches including 19-inch wheels, setting it apart from the less sporty trims. Options across all trim levels include a rear seat entertainment system, a blind spot warning system and all-wheel-drive.
The XC90 wouldn't be a Volvo without a bevy of safety features. Anti-lock brakes with emergency brake assistance, traction control, stability control, rollover protection system, anti-submarining protection, dual stage airbags side curtain airbags and even a collapsible steering column are all standard.
Volvo has kept the drivetrain relatively simple. A 6-speed automatic sends power to either the front or all four wheels, while a 3.2L V6 provides power. The V6 is good for a respectable 16 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway while producing a reasonable 240 horsepower.
2013 Volvo XC90 Model Changes
For 2013, the XC90 receives its first major update since its launch in 2002. The 2-tone look of previous XC90's is now a thing of the past-- Volvo instead went with a more monochromatic theme for 2013. The front fascia is updated with the addition of new daytime running lights while new 18-inch alloy wheels round out the more noticeable exterior changes. Inside, there's a new leather wrapped steering wheel, walnut overlays and improved interior lighting. The R-Design has also been updated with new 19-inch wheels and a black mesh grill.
2013 Volvo XC90 Value
The Volvo XC90 starts at $39,500, significantly undercutting the price of other SUVs like BMW's X5 and the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. The Volvo has plenty of standard features to set it apart from the competition and crucially, is available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive, making it a good choice for people who don't necessarily need lots of off road ability or goodies. Capable of seating seven people, the XC90 is a vehicle for people who want lots of standard amenities and plenty of luxury at a price that BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz can't touch.
2013 Volvo XC90 Strengths
