2014 Ford Fiesta 5dr HB ST User Reviews
Great valueBy Stephanie T (I am an Owner), Oct. 22, 2013The Fiesta is a great commuter car with ample power, comfort and room. In a market where all the relatively cheap cars all look the same, I actually like the Fiesta's styling. Overall it has excellent... more
2014 Ford Fiesta OverviewThe front-wheel-drive Ford Fiesta returns for 2014 as either a 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback.
The Fiesta's primary powerplant is a 120-horsepower, 1.6L 4-cylinder engine that features Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing, which enables smoother low-rev torque while also maximizing fuel economy, all with an EPA highway estimate of 40 mpg when equipped with the Super Fuel Economy package). A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, but the available 6-speed PowerShift transmission is unique in the class; the twin-clutch automated manual transmission helps improve both fuel economy and performance versus a traditional automatic. An optional turbocharged 1.0L EcoBoost 3-cylinder engine is new for 2014. The engine makes 123 hp and 148 ft-lb of torque--a full 30 ft-lb more than the base 1.6--while returning an expected 40 mpg. Finally, the all-new Fiesta ST will come powered by a turbocharged 1.6L EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine, which produces 197 hp and 214 ft-lb of torque. Fuel economy is an estimated 34 mpg on the highway.
The base Fiesta S is aimed at budget-minded customers. Air conditioning, an auxiliary input jack and 6.5-inch touchscreen are standard, while the car can be optioned with a nicer sound system, keyless entry and auto locking doors.
The mid-level SE models include these items as standard, while also adding the latest version of SYNC MyFord Touch system, power windows, a trip computer, heated side mirrors and cruise control. Next is the Titanium Fiesta, which adds features that are unusual in the subcompact market, including heated leather seats, SiriusXM radio, pushbutton start and a perimeter alarm system. Finally, the new Fiesta ST is made for enthusiasts, with an available Recaro seating package.
In most other ways, the Fiesta is laid out much like other subcompacts. The suspension, which has struts in front and a twist-beam axle setup in back promises a sportier driving experience than other economical cars. Things are different beneath the lowered, stiffer ST, where grippy Bridgestone Potenza tires are fitted to 17-inch alloy wheels and sprung by an independent MacPherson setup in the front and a torsion-beam suspension in the rear, with monotube shocks.
Although the interior layout of the Fiesta is much like other cars of its size, Ford offers upgraded materials and trims inside, as well as a wide range of textures and colors. The result is a more premium, sporty feel throughout the cabin. Upholstery choices include cloth, leather, or perforated leather with contrast piping, while available ambient lighting includes a choice of several different colors. Ford has made an effort to keep the interior especially quiet with the use of foam baffles inside the pillars, as well as additional sound insulation behind the instrument panel.
Inside, the Fiesta comes with bucket seats in front and a 60/40-split bench seat in back, which can be folded forward in part or in all to expand cargo space. Front seats are designed for a wide range of sizes, and the steering wheel tilts and telescopes. Cupholders are adjustable, while several smaller bins are provided for odds and ends.
Safety is addressed with a stability control system, a tire pressure monitoring system and a variety of airbags. Front side airbags, side curtain airbags and driver's knee airbags all come standard across all Fiesta trims.
2014 Ford Fiesta Model Changes
Big news in the Fiesta lineup for 2014 is the introduction of the high-performance Fiesta ST. The 5-door hatchback ST is powered by a turbocharged 1.6L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which produces 197 hp and 214 ft-lb of torque. Fuel economy is an estimated 34 mpg on the highway. The car comes in hatchback style only, with a 6-speed manual transmission and is priced at $21,400.
Also new in the Fiesta range is a turbocharged 1.0L EcoBoost 3-cylinder engine. The engine makes 123 hp and 148 ft-lb of torque and joins the naturally aspirated 1.6L currently available in the Fiesta.
Elsewhere, the Fiesta receives updated exterior styling, with a more aggressive look up front, including thinner headlights with LED running lights, a power dome on the hood and a trapezoidal grille like that found on the attractive Fusion sedan. Inside, the Fiesta gets a new MyFord Touch system, which features a better voice recognition function and better navigation, along with improved Bluetooth integration and a larger 6.5-inch LCD color touchscreen.
2014 Ford Fiesta Value
The Fiesta offers a host of connectivity and tech features that aren't typically available in this budget-priced small-car class. Its 40-mpg EPA highway rating is very impressive, while the 6-speed PowerShift transmission is one of the most advanced automatics in any small car. Other features, including push-button start, aren't typically offered in its price class, while a wide range of potential customization and appearance options appeal to younger shoppers who want to express an individual style. Finally, the new 197-hp Fiesta ST offers speed and agility unparalleled in this class.
