It all started when I went to my local Toyota dealership. I was shopping for something like the Corolla. The new model was nice and sporty. When I entered the dealership I saw to my right a low slung shape. I turned around intrigued and there it was. The FR-S. It's shape is much more engaging in person than what I previously saw in pictures. I opened the door and sat in it. I'm 47 years old, 6'2" and around 220 pounds. To my utter surprise, I fit quite well in the car. Snug, but not cramped. The seats are the best part of the interior. The rest is superfluous. It's a back to basics sports car. And it does that quite nicely. Yes, I did buy the little bugger. I say little because it is quite small. It's also very low. Winter drivability is excellent. I have Nitto winter tire in 16" size. The sound the engine makes is just loud enough. So no after market exhaust systems for me. The gearbox is stiff when cold, especially the first two gears. When warmed up, it is one of the best ones I have tried so far. The steering feel is just right. The clutch is linear and light. I love the car and accept it's compromises. Mid life crisis car? Maybe, but I had a lot of Camaros and Mustangs when I was younger and I must say that this little bugger is the best balance of sportiness and fun anywhere. The best part is that the car is also inexpensive to buy and to maintain. Can't wait to drive the car in summer conditions. I bought the car just before winter. I live in Montreal. Brrr. ...more
