Lexus GS-F to Debut in 2012 as BMW M5 Rival
Once a leader is the mid-size luxury segment, the Lexus GS is now at the back of the pack. With a new Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series and the debut of the all-new Audi A6 yesterday, the GS is set to be reinvented soon.
When Lexus does pull the covers back on an all new GS, expect a GS-F model to arrive shortly afterward reports Road & Track.
According to their sources, the GS-F will use the same 5.0-liter V8 as found in the IS-F, pumping out as much as 465-hp – although we have to think that considering how much the E63 AMG makes and how powerful the next M5 is expected to be, perhaps Lexus will need to strap a supercharger on that engine.
To keep the car competitive, Lexus will keep weight to a minimum, with use of carbon fiber and aluminum for a curb weight of just 3,700 lbs. Those factors combined, the car should be able to hit 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.
When it does arrive, expect to pay a premium, with the list price rumored to come close to $100,000.
