New Infiniti Compact Sports Coupe to Debut in Geneva With Turbocharged Mercedes Engine

Infiniti is preparing to debut an all-new entry-level model at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show, exploiting its recent tie-up with Daimler to source a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine as motivation.

The new coupe-styled hatchback will reportedly get the new turbocharged 1.8-liter 4-cylinder introduced by Mercedes in the upcoming 2012 C-Class. In that car it makes 201-hp and 229 lb-ft of torque and delivers a 0-60 mph time of 7.1 seconds. The new Infiniti model will, however, be front-wheel drive.

With continued cooperation between the two automakers, Mercedes will borrow electric car technology from Nissan-Renault, while additional reports suggest the partnership could extend to a new luxury sedan for Infiniti based on the upcoming S-Class platform.
