2012 Audi A6 to Get 4-Cylinder Engine in North America

With the introduction of the 2012 A6 luxury sedan, Audi will for the first time ever offer a 4-cylinder version in North America.
That engine will be, unsurprisingly, the automakers one-size-fits-all 2.0 TFSI turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplant, although it’s not clear if Audi intends to up the output from the roughly 200-hp it currently produces in most other models.
Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, look for a 28-mpg highway rating.
The previous base offering was Audi’s 3.2-liter V6 which made 265-hp and achieved the same 28-mpg highway rating.
In addition, the A6 will be available with the automaker’s 295-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V6.
This news comes via Audi USA communications boss Jeff Kuhlman, who also shared some disappointing news. At present the German automaker has no plans to bring to market an RS4 model. Pity.
