Feds Probe GM SUVs for Faulty Fuel Gauges
In this era of relatively high fuel prices, motorists are looking to save every last drop of gas they can. However, if they drive a General Motors SUV they might be carrying less fuel in their tanks than they actually think.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently launched an investigation regarding faulty fuel gauges on certain GM Sport Utilities, namely 2005-07 Chevrolet Trailblazers, GMC Envoys, Buick Rainiers and Saab 9-7Xs.
The major problem has been vehicles stalling out because drivers thought they had more fuel in the tank than they actually did. Over the past weekend alone, some 58 individual complaints were registered about vehicles stalling, with 43 of those resulting from inaccurate fuel level readings. In one case, a stalled SUV was apparently hit from behind when stuck on the off-ramp of an Interstate.
Those findings registered over the weekend brings the total number of complaints so far to some 668 and NHTSA is investigating a whopping 865,000 vehicles regarding this problem.
