BMW To Expand Mini Production In UK
BMW will sink £500 million into its British production network for the current and next-generation Mini, expanding the factory at Oxford and adding over 5,000 UK jobs over the next three years.
This brings the amount of money BMW has invested in Mini UK to over £1.5 billion since 2000. Production at MINI Plant Oxford began in 2001, and in the last 10 years the plant has built over 2 million vehicles that have been sold in 90 different countries.
BMW executives met with Prime Minister David Cameron to reassure him that the Mini would continue to tap into the skills of the modern British workforce (unlike the original Mini, for that matter). I welcome this major investment by BMW Group in UK manufacturing,” said Cameron. “The production and export of iconic British cars like the MINI is making a real contribution to the rebalancing of the economy that this government is determined to achieve.”
