It comes as little surprise that after 21 years the Isle of Man TT circuit record has fallen. After all, would you expect any less of a Subaru WRX STI when compared to the Rover 827 Vitesse driven by Tony Pond back in 1990.

With native Mark Higgins behind the wheel, he managed a time of 19:56.7 on the 27.8 mile course, besting the previous record by over two minutes. These times are, however, for a car, with the record for a motorcycle 17:12.3, set by John McGuinness in a Honda CBR1000RR back in 2009.

Higgins looks to improve upon his time later this week with more runs set for Wednesday and Friday. After all, he set the new record on just his first time out.
