Honda unveiled a new five-door Civic designed specifically for Europe at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

According to Takanobu Ito, Honda Motor president and chief executive officer, the new Civic was tested on European roads more than any other Honda model produced.

The hatchback Honda Civic will arrive in European showrooms in early 2012 with either a 1.8 liter gasoline engine or a 2.2 liter diesel engine. A smaller diesel engine, also developed specifically for Europe, will be introduced by late 2012, heralding the start of a new generation of low emission Honda powerplants.

Based on the engine that they have in the car, it looks exactly like a the 1.8 liter r18 engine that is found in the 2006+ gas engine hear in america, so maybe it will be a gas engine in europe.
