mercedes benz pullman turbo diesel rumors surface

After Maybach got terminated for its lack of sales success, Mercedes-Benz may be reviving Pullman, another legendary moniker once popular to political dignitaries, in hopes to compete with Bentley of VW Group, and BMW’s Rolls Royce by 2013.

Rumors of the new Mercedes-Benz Pullman have already begun to surface. According to Autobild, the Pullman will stretch to 21 feet in length, which would make it a foot longer than a Rolls Royce Phantom, providing enough space within the cabin of the stretched Benz to accommodate a set of fold down, rear-facing seats. We can safely assume that Mercedes-Benz will aim to trump competitors in refinement and technology as well.

Complementing the Mercedes-Benz Pullman’s size, weight, and amenities, the engine that the S600 Pullman will receive is a robust V-12, producing 650-hp. However, strange rumors have suggested that a total of six engine options are available for the Pullman, including a four-cylinder turbo diesel engine delivering a lowly 204-hp. Hybrid variants are said to be in the works for the American and Chinese market.

While the credibility of these rumors remains to be seen, we look forward to Mercedes-Benz’s second attempt at success in the ultra-luxury class.
