Today at the 2012 New York Auto Show, the newest generation Porsche 911 was announced as the World Performance Car of the year for 2012.

The award is decided upon by a panel of 64 automotive journalists originating from 25 different countries. The 911 was competing with 18 other vehicles, and came out on the top of the heap.

The president and CEO of Porsche, Matthias Müller said, “The new 911 received its first award only a short time after it was launched in December 2011. Since then there have been many more. But this internationally important prize is certainly the high-water mark to date.”

The new Porsche 911 is the seventh generation of the classic sports car, and comes loaded with new performance and technology features.
