Utterly pointless yet indisputably awesome, F1 racer David Coulthard and pro golfer Jake Shepherd set a new world record last month by catching a 178 mph golf ball in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster racing down a track.

We brought you the story at the time, but Mercedes waited until this month to show the footage as promotional material for the hot AMG convertible. Having seen the video now, it’s hard to fault whoever made the decision.

A full 300 yards from the tee and several attempts in, Coulthard scooped the ball into the car’s open top before cutting the wheel and sending clouds of tire smoke into the sky.
