German sports car manufacturer Artega, based in Delbrück, Germany, has announced that it is filing for bankruptcy.

Artega first showed up on the scene at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show with the Artega GT, a small two-seat mid-engine sports car. A roadster variant was in the works, but whether it will go into full production is unknown.

Artega was set to receive a sizable investment from an Asian company, but the plug was pulled at the last minute, forcing them to file for bankruptcy. The company did say however that operations will continue at full speed, and that talks have already been opened with other investors who are interested in keeping the company alive.

Artega was receiving some guidance from Henrik Fisker on an electric variant of its sporty GT, to compete with the the Tesla Roadster, but the car was only ever a concept.
