Today, Chevrolet announced that 2012 will be the final year that the company will compete in the World Touring Car Championship.

Chevy joined up in 2005, and has been very successful since then. The brand has won the manufacturers and drivers titles for two years straight, and is set to win once again this year. Chevy has enjoyed its success in part thanks to BMW and Seat also pulling out of the league.

“Following a strategic review of our motorsport and marketing programs we have decided to leave the FIA World Touring Car Championship at the end of the 2012 season to focus our Chevrolet brand activities in other areas,” said Chevrolet Europe President and Managing Director Susan Docherty.
