Porsche is set to wow the world with its new supercar, the 918 Spyder, which our man caught in some spy photos earlier today.

Powered by a 4.6-liter V8 based on the engine found in the original RS Spyder LMP2 race car, the latest from Stuttgart promises 770 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque thanks to its gas-powered engine and pair of electric motors.

This is the most recent sighting of Porsche’s new halo car in the flesh, and it looks stunning. What’s more impressive than the gorgeous exterior is the fact that even in still photos, it’s obvious that Porsche means business. Visible wheel lift suggests that the car is being pushed right to its limits, something that wasn’t true of the stripped down version that topped out at 80 mph last March.

The car seen here has a bigger rear spoiler than previous Porsche-released photos, which suggests that this might be the tuned up track package.

One thing is for sure: the supercar market is set for a shakeup when the 918 Spyder hits the market in 2013.
