2013 Ford Taurus, Explorer, Lincoln MKS Earn Five-Star NHTSA Rating
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded a five-star crash test rating to three Ford vehicles today: the Taurus, Explorer and Lincoln MKS.
Each of the cars earned a five-star rating in the NHTSA’s new car assessment program which tests vehicle performance in frontal- and side-impact crashes, as well as rollover resistance. All three vehicles got new airbag systems for 2013, with features such as dual-stage front airbags which react at different velocities based on driver size, seating position and severity of impact.
A front collision detect sensor is also present in cars that are equipped with active cruise control, which will alert the driver both visually and audibly of possible collision threats and will pre-charge the brakes to make them more responsive. Blind-spot monitoring, inflatable seat belts and a safety canopy side-curtain airbag systems are also among the safety features.
