Making yet another spy photo appearance, the 2014 BMW M3 which will drop from a V8 to a V6 was caught running round the Nurburgring.

Little is known of the car on an official basis yet, but it is expected to downsize to a turbocharged V6 from its throaty 4.0-liter V8. Rumors that the car will also shed the option for a manual gearbox have stirred discussion around the internet, but official word on the transmission situation is still unknown.

Only a few months ago, Albert Biermann, head of BMW’s M Division engineering said the M3 will “always have a stick shift.” In either case, the coupe version is expected to migrate from being called the M3 to the M4 in keeping with the Bavarian brand’s new naming structure that will further differentiate which cars belong where in the brand’s hierarchy.
