Jaguar F-Type to Sport Manual Transmission Option

Jaguar is bringing a new lightweight sports car to market called the F-Type, and when it arrives it will come available with a manual gearbox.

When the new Jag launches it will be outfitted with an eight-speed automatic setup, with the manual transmission being introduced sometime down the line. It will likely be available only with certain engines, and certain trim lines.

The 5.0-liter V8 is probably the engine to be teamed with the manual gearbox, as it will be the choice engine for driving enthusiasts. Cabriolet versions probably won’t get the stick. In terms of trim, the F-Type R will almost surely get the stick as well, being the most track focused setup for the car.

A Jag insider also revealed to Car and Driver that another Jaguar model will be offered with a stick shift sometime in the near future, although details were not divulged.

Watch for the F-Type to bow at the 2012 Paris Auto Show next month.

  • Rumours say that only the V6 and V6S will get the stick shift. I totally agree: the V8 is far too powerful and has to much torque to cope with a manual, it would take ages for Jaguar to build one that fits... On the other hand, no one actually knows if the roadster will get the manual box or not... i hope so though ;)
