If the wildly powerful Shelby GT500 still isn’t enough for you, there’s an even more potent option: the GT500 Super Snake which Shelby American is tweaking for the 2013 model year.

This year, the Super Snake gets a list of styling, color and performance options along with a lower base price. There will only be 500 built and customers will have the choice of any color in the regular GT500 line as well as the option for a convertible or hardtop.

“When Ford launched the 2013 Shelby GT500, we were bombarded with requests for Shelby American to offer a Super Snake package for the car,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “Our team worked closely with Ford Racing and other key partners to develop our new fire breathing snake. The result is the most powerful base model Super Snake ever at 662 horsepower, which is available at prices lower than previous models. By checking off a few boxes in the series of optional equipment, you can take home a street-legal 850 horsepower version that runs on pump gas.”

The car also gets new wheels in either black or metallic finish and either satin black or gloss white stripes to go with them.

“With Ford’s new 2013 Shelby GT500 having 662 hp right out of the box, along with our new wide body putting 14 inches of rubber on the ground, this car will be a game changer when it comes to power to the pavement performance,” Shelby American vice president of production Gary Davis said.

For those with the cash, experiencing that game changer will require a GT500 to start and $28,995 for the kit leaving the car with 662-hp or $39,995 for the 850-hp version. All in, the higher performing Super Snake will end up costing well above $100,000. For those who aren’t willing or able to spend that much on a Mustang, there’s also a site to build your dream car virtually.
