Four new 2013 models just joined the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick list: the Dodge Dart, Hyundai Santa Fe, Lexus ES and the Subaru XV Crosstrek.

The Dodge Dart and Subaru XV Crosstrek are both all new vehicles that launched in late 2012 as 2013 models and managed near-perfect scores across the board.

Dodge’s new Dart did get dinged for a risk of drivers breaking or fracturing a rib in the event of a severe collision, while the Subaru XV Crosstrek scored an acceptable rating for its structure and safety cage.

The 2013 Lexus ES made top marks across the board despite the previous model year not being rated so well. For 2013, the ES migrated from the Camry platform to the new Avalon platform, which vastly improved its crash test safety capability.

Hyundai continues its good safety record with the Santa Fe, which was also redesigned for the 2013 model year. It improves its structure and safety cage rating from acceptable to good, while all of the other tests scored top marks.
