Mercedes-Benz CLA Photos Leak Before Detroit Debut


Photos of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA have hit the web this morning, revealing the new baby-Benz to the world before its official debut at the upcoming 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

Referred to as the baby CLS, the CLA shares it platform and most of its look with the new A-Class, except for the rear end, which borrows heavily from the CLS. It also takes cues from the Concept Style Coupe, which the German brand released earlier this year as a foreshadowing of upcoming cars. While the base model will be front-wheel drive, the CLA is expected offer all-wheel drive when the CLA45 AMG variant arrives.

Engine options are likely to be shared with the A-Class, with 1.6- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines being available, ranging from 107 to 211 horsepower. claims that there will be four variants of the CLA: CLA 180 with 122 hp, CLA 200 with 156 hp, and CLA 250 with 211 hp. A diesel engine will also be available, though it will probably not be offered in the U.S. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual (a rarity for Mercedes) as well as the brand’s new 7-speed dual clutch automatic.

Interior photos reveal that the CLA also shares its insides with the A-Class, save some small details. Tech will include Mercedes’ iPhone support that offers Siri connectivity, COMAND infotainment, and Mercedes’ “pre-safe” collision avoidance system.

The CLA45 AMG version is likely to use the same engine as the A45 AMG, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder packing 325 hp.
