2014 Mercedes E63 AMG 4MATIC Revealed With 577-HP
The horsepower war between the major German automakers is over, they say. The reveal of an updated Mercedes E63 model for 2014, setting a new benchmark of 577 hp, suggests old rivalries are still strong.
Updated with a bold new look, this mid-cycle refresh for the AMG-tuned E-Class brings with it more changes than that, including the addition of all-wheel drive.
Powering the E63 continues to be the brand’s twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine, with an output increase of 32 hp and 15 lb-ft of torque for a new total of 550 hp and 531 lb-ft. Those who want more (more than the BMW M5 or Audi RS6) can opt for the S-Model package, with the full 577 hp and a massive 590 lb-ft of torque. That car can hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, while the standard version will do it in 3.6.
Helping put all that power to the ground is a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, a first for an AMG car, with a rear-biased 33/67 power distribution. The AWD does, however, add an extra 154 lbs to the car’s weight.
Being an AMG, the E63 boasts an AMG adaptive suspension, some big 19-inch wheels and upgraded brakes plus a faux-LSD torque vectoring braking system, while S-Models also gain a true limited slip differential in the rear.
And of course, it’s hard to miss the new look for 2014 with larger front intakes and the new dual-headlights design, while the interior is the usual oasis of Nappa leather and Alcantara throughout.
Set to be officially unveiled at the North American International Auto Show next week, look for more details then and see our complete 2013 Detroit Auto Show preview here.

How many of us remember riding around in Moms wagon as kids. I love the idea of a wagon with this kind of power, now if we could just keep all that power a secret. I envision some kid sitting at a light, thinking he'll impress the hell out of us with his Mustang when the light turns green. The look if surprise as this station wagon pulls away at the light, him trying to figure out what just happened.
