Original Batmobile Sells For $4.2 Million at Barrett-Jackson
The original Batmobile from the 1960s television series has sold for an astonishing $4.2 million at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Built by George Barris, who was on hand for the auction, the modified Lincoln Futura is surprisingly not the most expensive vehicle ever sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction. That honor belongs to a Shelby Cobra that once sold for $5.5 million.
Regardless, it’s an impressive amount for such an iconic car and is the first time the original Batmobile has ever been sold. Hand-built by Ghia Body Works in Turin, Italy, the Batmobile is powered by a 390-in 1956 Lincoln V8 engine.
